Windows 10 update wants me to restart, but dosnt work.

I seem to have ran into a problem updating to Windows 10.

Every time i go into «Windows Update» i get told that «Upgrade to windows 10 is ready» — «Restart your pc to being installation. It can take some time, but you will get a message once its done» (Hard Translated from Danish)

So i restart but it just restarts the computer without installing the update, and brings me up the Windows Update dialog where it tells me to restart once again. And i keeps on doing that.

Could you mabye help me out? I already ran «WindowsUpdateDiagnostic» from microsoft.com’s website.

Currently running Windows 7.

Please provide more information to enable your problem to be diagnosed.

Please restart your computer and allow 20 minutes for the system to run before uploading information. When examining Event Viewer log files many, not all, problems show in the period immediately after the computer has been booted.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. If the report is in a language other than English, please state the language.

Please upload and share with everyone a fresh copy of your System log from your Event Viewer to your One Drive and post a link here. It helps to avoid confusion if you remove any earlier copies of the log files from your OneDrive.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu . Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

How can I restart Windows 10 without updating?

Please give your customers the option to restart or shut down their Windows 10 laptop without updating. Why?

Sometimes I have trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi so i have to restart my laptop real quickly to connect to the Wi-Fi but it seems like Microsoft never wants us to be able to be productive. In fact, I am currently typing this post over mobile because my laptop is stuck updating Windows since I couldn’t use my Wi-Fi so I had to restart. And this time, I have been waiting for at least 30 minutes for the «Getting Windows Ready» screen. What if I had an assignment for college due? What if I was trying to show someone something on my laptop?

It’s a good thing my Android does not force me to wait for updates, or else I would never be able to make any phone calls or reply to any emails. Do I really have to spend extra money on a Mac so that it doesn’t force me to wait for updates? Do I really have to become tech-savvy just so I can use Linux and not have to wait for updates?

Also, why is this website so slow on mobile? All other websites run fine even with all of the advertisemenrs? Even my Google Docs run faster despite having more text. Fix your stuff Microsoft. I know Microsoft doesn’t read these forum posts but that’s also why most everyone hates Microsoft and Windows.

And yes, this post is a question. Please at least tell me an easy way to disable updates or allow me to restart without updating. It should not be this hard. Windows didnt even tell me that it would be updating this time either. At least be more transparent. Or is Microsoft scheming to make their users buy two computers? One for updating and the other for work?

How do I fix random restarts in Windows 10?

1. Change Advanced Power Settings

1. Press Windows Key + S and type Power Options.
2. From the list of results choose Power Options.
   
3. When Power Options window opens, find your plan and click on Change plan settings.
   
4. Now click on Change advanced power settings.
   
5. Scroll down and locate Processor Power Management.
   
6. You should see the Minimum Processor State value that is set to 100%.
7. Change Minimum Processor State to some other value, such as 0.
8. Save changes.

If you are having random restarts on Windows 10, you might want to try changing the power settings.

2. Make sure the Sleep mode is enabled

1. Open Power Options, find your current plan and click on Change plan settings.

5. Change your power plan to High performance

windows update always wants to restart my computer

Been running Win7 Enterprise x64/SP1 (clean RAID1 install) for over a year now but around start of March 2013, the optional Platform Update for Windows 7 x64-Edition (KB2670838) seems to have screwed up my Windows Update (error Code 80070BC9 & I have confirmed this update has not actually been installed). Although I have hidden this update & Microsoft Essentials itself updates without any issues & FULL scan finds no issues, I am no longer able to get any automatic updates.

Even after using the MS ‘Fix It’ utility which seems to detect & repair problems and following the instructions provided in the «How do I reset Windows Update Components». I now seem to be in an endless loop with Windows Update always wanting me to restart my computer to install important updates.

I have attempted a Windows file system repair from my bootable CD and performed a complete offline chkdsk to ensure there are no errors so I’m really stuck now & don’t particularily want to have to re-install Windows 7 for just one vital component that appears to have got somewhat confused so any help here would be greatly appreciated.

As a matter of interest, when I did follow the detailed information on how to reset the Windows Update components, here is a list of issues I ran into so maybe that could explain why ALL the components did not get fully installed properly?

1. Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 *.bak -> no permissions were allowed to rename file even after I changed its owner R/W properties

2. When I tried to Reregister the following BITS and Windows Update files, I got the following popup error message:
-> module «xxxxxx.dll» was loaded but the entry-point DIIRregisterServer was not found. Make sure that «xxxxx.dll» is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again.
where xxxxx was mshtml, shdocvw, browseui, msxml, gpkcsp, sccbase, slbcsp, initpki, wuaueng1, wucltui, wuweb, qmgr and muweb

3. C:\Windows\System32>netsh reset winsock
The following command was not found: reset winsock.

So I’m not sure if these commands are out of date or I have some other sinister issues with my registery as this might explain why I am unable to reset my Windows Update components?
