Установка и удаление шрифтов на компьютере Mac

Компьютер Mac поставляется со множеством встроенных шрифтов, также можно загружать и устанавливать дополнительные шрифты от компании Apple и из других источников. Если какой-либо шрифт в программах нежелателен, его можно отключить или удалить.

Установка шрифтов

Дважды щелкните нужный шрифт в Finder, затем щелкните «Установить шрифт» в открывшемся окне предварительного просмотра шрифта. После тогда как компьютер Mac проверит шрифт и откроет программу Шрифты, шрифт установлен и доступен для использования.

В настройках программы «Шрифты» можно указать установочную папку по умолчанию, что определит доступность добавляемых вами шрифтов для других учетных записей на этом компьютере Mac.

Шрифты, отображаемые в программе «Шрифты» затененными, либо отключены («Откл.»), либо доступны для загрузки с веб-сайта Apple как дополнительные. Чтобы загрузить шрифт, выделите его и выберите «Правка» > «Загрузить».

Отключение шрифтов

Отключить можно любой шрифт, не являющийся обязательным для компьютера Mac. Выделите шрифт в программе «Шрифты», затем выберите «Правка» > «Отключить». Шрифт останется установленным, но больше не будет отображаться в меню шрифтов программ. В программе «Шрифты» рядом с названиями отключенных шрифтов отображается пометка «Откл.».

Удаление шрифтов

Удалить можно любой шрифт, не являющийся обязательным для компьютера Mac. Выделите шрифт в программе «Шрифты», затем выберите «Файл» > «Удалить». Программа «Шрифты» переместит шрифт в корзину.

Дополнительная информация

ОС macOS поддерживает шрифты TrueType (.ttf), Variable TrueType (.ttf), TrueType Collection (.ttc), OpenType (.otf) и OpenType Collection (.ttc). В ОС macOS Mojave добавлена поддержка шрифтов OpenType-SVG.

Шрифты устаревшего комплекта TrueType и шрифты PostScript Type 1 LWFN могут работать, но использовать их не рекомендуется.

1 Шрифты Georgia и Trebuchet MS поставляются вместе с Windows 2000/XP и включены в пакет шрифтов IE (да и вообще поставляются со многими приложениями от Microsoft), поэтому они установлены на многих компьютерах с ОС Windows 98.

2 Символьные шрифты отображаются только в Internet Explorer, в остальных браузерах они обычно заменяются на стандартный шрифт (хотя, например, шрифт Symbol отображается в Opera, а Webdings — в Safari).

3 Шрифт Book Antiqua практически идентичен Palatino Linotype; Palatino Linotype поставляется с Windows 2000/XP, а Book Antiqua — с Windows 98.

How to get Mac-like smooth fonts on Windows 10

If you are a using both macOS and Windows, you might have observed that the font in the Mac looks different than the fonts in Windows system. The texts in the Windows system appear smaller and less sharp as compared to the Mac system. Some also prefer the color representation in Mac than in Windows. It may, therefore, appear to some that unlike Mac, the texts in the Windows aren’t optimized for reading long-form articles.

Windows Font vs Mac Font

The way the fonts appear on your machine depends on the software called Font renderer. Apple cares about Mac aesthetic and puts in a lot of efforts to the stuff like modern UI and font rendering that distinguishes Mac from other systems like Windows. Windows uses DirectWrite technology to render fonts and Mac, on the other hand, uses Free-Type font rendering that has better font smoothing capability than Windows.

As of now, Microsoft offers ClearType software technology for recent Windows version to improve the text readability on laptop screens and flat LCD monitors. A simple tweak on ClearType’s setting,s improves the readability of text and attempts to smooth the fonts on your monitor. However, most of the users like designers and artists still prefer using Mac’s Freestyle than Clear Type technology. If your work involves constantly switching between Mac OS and Windows system you may wish to have a Mac-like smooth font on Windows machine.

Get Mac font for Windows 10

While some of the Window users like developers and web designers simply love the way the Windows renders the font, some users might prefer an Apple render fonts as the texts look sharper, nicer and easier to read. In this article, we explain how to replace your Windows font with Mac-like smooth font using free programs like MacType and GDIPP.

MacType installs Mac font on Windows

As the name suggests, MacType is a powerful program which aims to provide Mac like smooth fonts on Windows 10. The latest version of MacType is fully compatible with Windows 10 and is easy to use with additional customization options. Follow the below steps to use MacType on Windows 10.

Download the latest version of MacType here. Run the installer file and during installation choose complete install.

Once the MacType is installed, Launch the program and select the language as English.

In the MacType Wizard window, Click on the radio button with option Load with MacTray.

Check the box with option Run as Administrator and click radio button with option Standalone loading mode.

Click the Next button. Choose the MacType default font smoothing profile labeled in Chinese and click Finish button.

Click OK in the confirmation dialogue box to apply the changes.

The Font profile determines the components involved in the font smoothing process. You can create a new font profile or edit the existing font profile using MacType Control Panel which will be created as your desktop shortcut soon after installation is complete.

GDIPP for Windows 10

GDIPP is a simple program that aims to provide you with the effect of windows text appear like Mac OS. It is extremely easy to use and can be easily customized on both 32-bit version Windows and 64 -bit Windows It allows you to install 32-bit components and 64 bt components separately. However, both these components share the same setting file. Once the program is installed, the 32-bit processes will only render 32-bit applications, and 64-bit components will only render 64-bit applications in 64 bit Windows version. Follow the below steps to use GDIPP program in Windows 10.

Download the latest version of GDIPP here. Run the downloaded installer.

Once the installation is complete, you will have the smooth Mac like fonts on your Windows machine.

Сглаживание шрифтов в Microsoft Windows примерно как в Apple MAC OS

Поиском не нашёл на хабре такого рода извращений, потому решил исправить положение.

Предыстория

Поставил себе как-то браузер Safari. И заметил, что текст отображается по-другому. И весьма мне понравилось читать именно в нём, как-то красивее кошернее выглядел текст (хотя это субъективно, некоторым и не нравится подобная размытость). И стал я искать…

Результаты поисков

Вашему вниманию предлагается программа, которая позволяет сделать сглаживание шрифтов похожим на сглаживание в MAC OS.
Представляю —
MacType.

Описывать настройки со скриншота выше смысла нет, потому просто приведу скриншоты полученных результатов. Отмечу только, что программа поддерживает профили в виде *.ini файлов, из коробки на выбор предлагается 11 профилей (5 макоподобных, 6 неясных и возможность нагадить создать самому (в зелёном квадрате выделения профиль, установленный у меня)):

Вывод

Как видите, отличия минимальны, но они есть. Думаю, их можно решить дальнейшей подгонкой профилей.

Release candidate 1 is here. It will become final if no major error is found in the next few weeks. So please don’t hesitate to raise an issue if you encounter anything suspicious.

Breaking changes

• Windows XP support was dropped. Please upgrade if you’re still using this ancient system.
• Option ForceChangeFont was removed. Please use regular fontsubsitution instead.
• Registry mode was removed in the wizard. However, a detailed guide will be provided in the wiki to let you set it up manually if you still wish to use it.

New option

A new option under experimental section was introduced: ArmBreaker
It allows mactype to mildly compromise part of the system mitigation policy to make mactype work with some finicky programs like Chrome.

Changes and fixes introduced in RC1

1. Compatible with shadow stack (introduced with new CPUs), system apps on Windows 10+new CPU no longer crash because of that.
2. Bump FreeType to the latest git version (freetype/freetype@79ed536).
3. No longer intercept application environments.
4. Fixed a bug where an application could crash on mactype unloading because of some improper memory writes and assumptions.
5. Fixed a bug where in service mode, some applications occasionally couldn’t be rendered.
6. Fixed a bug where an application may crash if a bitmap font is used (Windows10 only)
7. Fixed a bug where texts could be garbled when fontsubsitutes are used. (e.g. with Telegram)
8. A folder and its subfolders can now be included/excluded, it just needs to be ended with a «»
9. Fixed a bug where light+lcd didn’t work as intended.
10. Localization adjustment.

Font inclusion

As requested! 😊 To use the new font inclusion feature, add the font name(s) under the [Include] section and only those specified font(s) will be rendered. If a font is both «Included» and «Excluded», it will be excluded. If nothing is specified under [Include] or the section doesn’t exist, font inclusion is disabled.

Why have we added font inclusion? Well first of all because it was requested. But also if you run a complex Windows environment, whitelisting (or including) several fonts, gives you a lot more control over things than excluding potentially hundreds of fonts.

MacTray bug report

This allows you to save a bug report instead of sending it currently, and gives you the info we need to help find and fix bugs more easily.

UWP apps

UWP stands for Universal Windows Application. MacType works for all native UWP apps, but not for apps converted from the old Win32 applications.

This is the same as 1.2018.917.0-beta, plus the new easyhook-20180918-2.zip files for convenience. This is the latest MacType release.

If you are having problems, please follow the instructions below to update before reporting issues. Please also use and test this version if you are in a position to beta test. If no issues are reported this will be moved to Release Candidate.

To install v1.2018.09.17-beta2

• Uninstall any old versions earlier than v1.2017.06.28
• Download and install MacTypeInstaller_2017_0628_0.exe
• Select Typical Install to avoid missing files (will be fixed in the next installer)
• Download MacType-v1.2018.09.17-beta2.zip (this version)
  • Rename the files in in C:\Program Files\MacType, that are included in the beta2 zip
  • Copy the beta2 files to C:\Program Files\MacType
  • Reboot! You’re now running v1.2018.09.17-beta2

Important notes!

• For Windows 10 only:
  • Avoid Registry Mode. Use only Service Mode or Tray Mode
  • Go to Services -> Mactype Service and change the Startup Type Automatic (Delayed Start)
• If your PC has Secure Boot:
  • Use Service Mode if you to keep Secure Boot enabled (recommended)
  • For Registry Mode to work, Secure Boot must be disabled (not recommended)
  • (Note: Service Mode and Registry Mode give the same results in most cases)

App-specific settings

Firefox

To use GDI (and full MacType) in Firefox:

1. In Firefox navigate to about:config
2. Search for azure
3. Change both graphics.canvas.azure.backends and graphics.content.azure.backends to direct2d1.1,cairo,skia
   
4. Search for gfx.direct2d.disabled
5. Double-click to change it to true
6. Close and restart Firefox for the changes to take effect. Fonts should now be rendered with MacType

Chrome

Unfortunately there is no known way to disable DirectWrite in Chrome or other apps that use the Chromium engine (e.g. Electron apps like Slack, Spotify, Atom, etc.). Fortunately CentBrowser, a fork of Chrome, has kept GDI font rendering, so works perfectly with MacType.

You can use CentBrowser exactly as you would Chrome, including extensions, and Chrome sign-in.

1. Download and install CentBrowser from https://www.centbrowser.com/
2. In CentBrowser navigate to chrome://flags/
3. Search for DirectWrite
4. Set it to disabled
   
5. Click Restart Now for changes to take effect. Fonts should now be rendered with MacType
