it/on/at и время: почему at night, но in the morning?

Сколько раз я учила эту тему, но во время разговора все время забывала и не могла быстро вспомнить, какие предлоги использовать с датами, какие с часами, почему мы говорим at night, но in the morning — ведь в обеих фразах — время суток. Наконец, я разложила все по полочкам: надеюсь, теперь вопросов не возникнет.

Он используется с длинными периодами времени. Например:

• век — in the 18th century
• год — in 1956
• месяц — in April
• время года — in summer

2. Предлог ON. Сужаем временной диапазон:

• дата — on 4 July
• день — on Friday, on Christmas Day (если используем просто Christmas, то предлог будет at. — at Christmas )

3. Предлог AT. Здесь время сужается еще больше:

• конкретное время — at 5 o’clock / at 11:45
• момент — at the moment/ at present/ at the same time

Это база, а теперь нюансы и то, что нужно просто запомнить.

Для начала разберемся с выходными. Какой предлог использовать с weekend — at weekend или on weekend ? По идее речь идет о днях недели, поэтому было бы логично использовать ON.

Возможны два варианта:

• в британском английском — at weekend
• в американском английском — on weekend

В зависимости от ситуации можно говорить и так, и так.

И теперь главный вопрос — почему at night, но in the morning?

Просто так сложилось! Надо запомнить.

at night/ at midnight

Еще с предлогом at есть такие устойчивые выражения, как at lunchtime / at the age of

Утро, день и вечер не поддаются логике, выпадают из схемы. Правильные варианты:

in the morning/ in the afternoon / in the evening

Мало того, что предлог IN, так еще и артикль the. Что делать? ZZZубрить!

Как быть, если сразу используется и день недели, и время дня?

Например, утром в понедельник.

Здесь перевешивает день недели, поэтому говорим on Monday morning.

I’ll see you in the morning / I’ll see you on Monday morning.

Next и last

Если используем слова next и last , о предлогах забываем!

They got married in last month.
