Virtualbox no sound windows

Нет звука Oracle Virtual Box 6.1.10.

had a similar problem (audio cracking/not working); what worked for me (Xubuntu as Host, VirtualBox 5.2.14) I found on stackoverflow marked off-topic:

  1. VirtualBox — open the settings for your Windows 10 machine
  2. Go to Audio > Audio Controller, change to ‘ALSA Audio Driver’ and «ICH AC97» as Controller
  3. Boot your Windows 10 machine and disable driver signature enforcement
  4. Go to Realtek website, download and install the AC’97 audio codec/driver for Vista/7 («Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)») onto your Windows 10 machine (run setup.exe)
  5. Reboot Windows 10

Combination that worked for me (Ubuntu Host, Win10 guest) :
In Win10

  • install realtek driver In virtualbox
  • Host audio driver : PulseAudio
  • Audio Controller: Intel HD Audio

I got it to work by:

  1. Follow the answer by definitely undefinable
  2. Before rebooting, opening the windows device manager ( Win + R , enter devmgmt.msc and press Enter )
  3. Find the Multimedia Audio Controller in one of the categories. It should be displayed as missing a driver (yellow exclamation mark in the icon)
  4. Right-click on the listing and select Update Driver Software.
  5. Select Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to the unzipped Realtek driver folder. Make sure Include Subfolders is checked. Press Next .
  7. Select Install this driver software anyway .
  8. Reboot the VM.

I furthermore had to change the Virtualbox settings back to PulseAudio , as I am using this on my Ubuntu 18.04 setup.

VirtualBox — no sound on Guest Win10

Recently I installed VirtualBox 6.1 on my MacBook Air and installed Windows 10 on it (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/), but somehow the sound on my guest Win10 is not working. I managed to dig for some info and found out that I need to install (https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/pc-audio-codecs-ac-97-audio-codecs-software) but it does not work. Could anybody help me with this one?

EDIT: I get the error when I hover over the sound icon: «no audio output device is installed»

Fixing the sound on guest windows 10 where the host is Linux / Mac

  • Open the settings for your Windows 10 machine inside of virtualbox
  • Go to Audio > Host Audio Driver, change to «ALSA Audio Driver»
  • Go to Audio > Audio Controller, change to «ICH AC97»
  • Enable Test Mode on Windows 10 and reboot machine.
  • Download and install the Realtek driver for Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file) from here and reboot your Windows 10 machine.
  • Disable test mode from the link in 4th step then reboot your Windows 10 machine.

In case you still have a crackling / popping sound

  • In the task bar, right click on the sound icon and choose playback devices
  • Double click on Speakers
  • Select the Advanced Tab
  • Set the Default Format to 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)
  • In the Exclusive Mode, Uncheck the Allow applications. etc
  • Select the Enhancement Tab
  • Check the Disable all sound effects
  • Make sure you click apply then OK

The crackling sound would immediately disappear but you could reboot just to verify.

Install Guest Additions if you haven’t already. More info here for your specific case: https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#additions-windows

I tried the route in the most upvoted answer but couldn’t get Win10 to install the AC97 driver. For me the solution was much simpler: select Audio Controller «Intel HD Audio» in the virtual machine settings (and leave Host Audio Driver to whatever the default was, in my case «Pulse Audio»). Enable Audio Output checked of course, and it should just work like the machine has a sound card.

Crackling is still there even with the stuff about turning off enhancements and exclusivity, but I think that’s not going away since I’m trying to play 1080p video and I don’t think the virtual machine has quite the kind of video hardware access (and memory allocation) that it needs to play this level of content perfectly smoothly.

No sound in 12.04 on VirtualBox

No sound when installed in VirtualBox. When I boot from the live CD in Windows, sound works fine on my speakers. When in boot the live CD in VirtualBox it does not see my speakers. In sound properties only digital output built in S/PDIF and headphones!

I’ve done the pavcontrol — alsamixer — all settings are OK. I’ve tried both 32/64 versions of Ubuntu. Running current version VirtualBox. System: Windows 7 64 — i5.

For a windows guest, Ubuntu host system, set the VM to use ALSA on the host and the VM soundcard to Intel HD.

Is your audio setting for your Ubuntu guest virtual machine set to ICH AC97 ?

ICH AC97 is the only VirtualBox VM audio setting which allows me to get sound when running Ubuntu as a guest and either Windows or OS X (10.6.8) as the host.

In particular, if a VM’s audio setting is Intel HD Audio then sound does not work in an Ubuntu 12.04 desktop guest.

On the other hand, sound will only work for a Windows 7 (64-bit) guest when the audio setting is Intel HD Audio . This can be rather annoying when you are working with a VM which dual boots either Ubuntu or Windows 7 as the guest OS.

I have never investigated this further to find out why it works this way or if there is a way to work around it. If you happen to find one, please let us know about it.

Note: You will have to «power off» your VM to change its audio setting.

No sound with any guest on Windows 10 host (after upgrade from Win 7)

Reported by: gmace11 Owned by:
Component: audio Version: VirtualBox 5.0.0
Keywords: no sound Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

VMs that were working correctly before no longer play sound when VB 5.0 is running on a Windows 10 Host.

I have tried both Lubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7 guests with the same results. Tried different audio settings combinations Host Driver: Windows DirectSound and Controller: ICH AC97 (was what I had before and was working for Lubuntu guest and Win 7 host) as well as Intel HD Audio.

When using ICH AC97 on Lubuntu, the visible symptom is that any application that plays audio seems to actually block on the audio component (a player will actually not show any progress in terms of elapsed time).

Looking at the VB longs I see two types of events that seem relevant (attaching full log):

00:00:20.777046 DSound: create capture buffer E_FAIL 00:00:26.406320 DSound: playback start E_ACCESSDENIED

I tried to enable more verbose logging by setting VBOX_RELEASE_LOG to +dev_audio.e.f.l2 but did not get any additional Dsound log lines.

I’ve also tried older versions of VirtualBox 4.3.30 but no luck.
