I find it truly sickening that, in a time of high online privacy concerns, Microsoft decides to install spyware on my WORK computer, completely without my consent.

I was looking around online for ways to uninstall it, but sites warn that tampering with the Windows registry may mess up the computer.

This is a WORK laptop and I have a lot of delicate, private information on here that I can neither risk losing, nor being exposed.

I understand that you want to remove Cortana from Windows 10, however it is recommended that you just disable Cortana so as not to cause damage to the system;

To disable Cortana from the system, follow the instructions below:

1: open the Windows start menu and click open the «Settings» menu.
2: with the menu open, click on “Applications”.
3: in the item “Apps and features”, look for the Cortana app and select it. It cannot be uninstalled directly from the settings menu, so click on “Advanced options”.
4: with the Cortana menu open, scroll down and look for the “Finish” item. Click «Finish» to have Windows 10 immediately terminate the app and all related processes.

To be honest, I don’t want to disable Cortana, I want it fully removed from my system! I understand your concern that it may damage the system, so the question remains: why was it installed without my consent?

Please do not reply that it is a «must have» feature for Windows, because my laptop worked perfectly fine before it (just as all previous versions of Windows functioned with «programs» instead of «apps»). Also, if the attempted removal of Cortana results in the loss or damage of any files or data, how do I go about suing Microsoft for this grave infringement upon my privacy and the resulting damages caused by the automatic installation of spyware?

Dear C_note,I understand that I would like to remove Cortana, in which case follow the instructions below:

1. Press the “Win ​​+ I” keys together to open the Windows 10 “Settings” screen;

And that’s not the only place Cortana’s losing its footing: later this year, Microsoft is expected to shut down the Cortana apps on both Android and iOS. Not only have many users been excited to boot Cortana from Windows 10, but it’s also gotten the «see ya!» treatment from its own speaker: the Harmon/Kardon Invoke.

This feature is welcome news, as Windows 10 headlines continue to be more about frustrating updates that lead to bugs that crash systems and break functionality. But giving power back to the users? We’re all in favor for these new options, which let you either uninstall the assistant’s app or brave the command line to remove it like you’re clearing gunk from the gutters.

It seems that Microsoft’s not giving up on Cortana, though. Instead, we’re seeing Cortana show up in other locations, such as Microsoft’s mobile Microsoft 365 apps. So, yes, even though you can remove Cortana from PCs, it’s still showing up inside the company’s Outlook and Teams apps.

How to disable Cortana
