Linux SCSI/SATA bus rescan

Подключив «по-горячему» еще один SATA винт, не обнаружил автоматического его подхвата системой, как это происходит когда подключаешь по USB. Переходник SATA-USB, как на зло, остался дома…

Машинка же была занята выполнением производственных задач и перегружать ее было бы очень и очень болезненно. Система — убунта 9.04, думаю что должно работать для всех 2.6.* ядер.

В FreeBSD есть такая замечательная штука как atacontrol которой можно заставить реинициализироваться контроллер. В линуксе такой полезной утилиты не обнаружил…
Но порыскав на просторах инета нашел следующее:

Из чего следует, что 5,6 — параллельные и точно не наши, а на 1м живет основной диск.
Значит «пробуем» 2,3,4 порт

Диск обнаружен на 4м порту, готов к употреблению. Монтируем стандартными средствами системы.

UPD: 18.11.2009 — для PATA СД-драйва такой способ не прокатил

Не работает SATA -> USB адаптер

Есть VCOM «R-Driver USB 2.0 TO SATA IDE CABLE» адаптер.
На винде работает.
На линуксе даже в dmesg пусто.
Реально его заставить работать? Нехватает какого-то модуля/опции ядра?

да, возможно у тебя дидро собран без поддержки enclosure или где-то там.

Если в ядре есть поддержка usb-контроллера, то при подключении должно быть сообщение об этом. Может проблемы с портом/питанием. Винда на этом же железе работает?

нет, винда на другом железе. дома нет машин с виндой. проверял у друга

у друга кстати под линуксом тоже не работает на том же компе, на котором под вендой работает

В конфиге ядра всё то же, что и для флешек/внешних usb-дисков.

Информация в dmesg появляется только после того, как переходник прочитает НЖМД, который, во избежании, лучше всего запитывать от БП компьютера (в выключенном состоянии или через специальный выключатель).

с CONFIG_ENCLOSURE_SERVICES и ещё несколькими похожими опциями не заработало.

нет, в lsusb ничего не меняется, кроме того, что порт перестаёт быть offline

Открой этот адаптер. Это не сложно. Запиши полное название, модель чипа. Погугли.

У меня гента. У друга проверяли на какой-то бунте. Не знаю сколько там модулей было. Ещё проверял на федоре. Там каталог модулей 112 мегабайт

А у тебя юсб контроллер вообще определился в линуксе ? Драйвер нужный есть ? Другие юсб устройства (мышь, клава, флешка) через этот контроллер работают ?

Питания может на хватить лично на твоей материнской плате. Предположу заниженое питание на юсб порту. Не думаю что у всех материнок одинаковое питание.

Помню в винде можно было посмотреть силу тока на каждом юсб порту. Не знаю возможно ли это в линуксе.

Вообще я всегда использовал внешнее питание для всех дисковых юсб адаптеров. Всегда всё работало отлично.

SATA to USB Adapter

A friend of mine had a problem with his computer and it no longer works. We just want to get the data from the HDD but are unable to do so. We have tried connecting the HDD to my Ubuntu machine with this SATA to USB Converter. When I connect it to my machine, the drive doesn’t show up in the file manager.

«lsusb» shows that the converter gets detected.

I’ve tried to mount it like in another post, but that doesn’t work either. So anybody have any ideas of how I can mount the HDD?

I would not be surprised if the adapter is somehow faulty. The use of a second USB cord to get power violates the USB specifications and anyone that can’t be bothered to follow this very basic USB specification is quite likely to violate some other specification.

I’d suggest returning the adapter if you can and getting one that powers the drive properly. That would be with a single USB plug for power and data, or with USB for data and a connection to a wall outlet for power.

I HAD the same problem.

1) Restart your pc + login 2) Plug in the USB 3) Type «lsusb» in the terminal 4) WAIT for ASMedia to show up 5) Look at your file explorer and WAIT 6) KEEP WAITING for 5 minutes.

If the hard disk still doesn’t show up, repeat (I had to do it approx. 20x).

If you are using a desktop (i am), you can plug the hard drive into your motherboard using a sata cable and reboot (don’t forget sata power then 🙂 ). I had a much harder hard drive where this worked to get it show up in the disk list using «Disks». If the hard drive is still working, you don’t have to reboot, sata is hot-pluggable.

External USB SATA Hard Drive not functioning

Well, I am new to linux, and I still have all of «My Documents» on my External USB SATA Hard Drive because I can’t seem to get them transfered.

Please help if you can.

You don’t say what you’ve done, but I’m guessing that you’ve plugged the USB drive in, switched it on and nothing has happened. As you are talking about ‘My Documents’ I assume you are coming from the Windows world and the external USB drive will be formatted with either the FAT32 or NTFS filesystems. Both should work read-write out of the box with Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. What should happen a few seconds after you switch on the drive is that an icon will appear on your desktop and a file manager window will open. In the Gnome desktop of Ubuntu, this is called Nautilus. It’s equivalent to Windows Explorer and functionally very similar.

So I assume that you haven’t seen either a desktop icon or a browser window. If so, something is wrong.

First — can you confirm what the filesystem is on the USB drive? Is it still readable in Windows?

Second — you have a SATA USB drive. I have two of these and I have twice been caught out by a simple gotcha. There will probably be a switch on it, USB2.0 and ESATA. If you’ve accidentally switched it to ESATA (easily done) it won’t get mounted when you plug it in. This is true of Windows and MacOS as well. Check that the switch is switched to USB.

Third — which version of Ubuntu are you using? If you are using a version earlier than 8.04 (Hardy Heron) you may not get read-write with NTFS but the drive should still be mounted at least read only — as far as I remember. If it’s FAT32 you should have no problem at all.

I’m afraid you won’t get another post out of me for at least 8 hours. It’s gone midnight here and I’m signing off now.

It does not look like ubuntu sees my HDD, no desktop icon or window.

I have FAT32 filesystem, I think.

There is only a usb port on my drive, no switch or ESATA.

Maybe some other nice forumophyle (or foruphyle, which) can help me before the morn.

could be that it’s only not mounted

open the console and type

check whitch partition is missing and mount it, fo ex. sde1
if there is no partition listed use the disks label (ex. sde) instead

should be right *g* got no fat32 around to test it
now you have your disk mounted read/write and you find it in the /mnt folder
