KB3033929 – целевое обновление системы безопасности, совместимое исключительно с Windows 7 (обе разрядности x64/x32) и серверной версией — Server 2008 R2.
В обоих случаях требуется наличие в системе сервисного пакета Service Pack 1 (SP1). Установщик обновления – файл msi, реализован на множестве языков, включая русский.
Смысл в инсталляции утилиты
Необходимость в применении KB3033929 к системе Windows 7 x64 (или 32-битной архитектуре) возникла с начала 2016 года. Причина – отказ Microsoft от поддержки SHA-1 в пользу усовершенствованной методики хэширования SHA-2.
Новое семейство криптографических алгоритмов объединяет 6 хэш-функций с вариативной длиной дайджеста. Используемые в SHA-2 размеры хэша – 224/256/384/512 бит. Для сравнения: дайджест SHA-1 составляет 160 бит.
Результат: часть клиентов, включая большинство игровых серверов, не работают без установки KB3033929. Также обновление необходимо для функционирования ряда редакторов мультимедиа, EDIUS в частности.
Порядок установки
Утилита вызвала ряд системных сбоев у отечественных пользователей. Поэтому, разумно привести краткое описание процесса инсталляции KB3033929:
- Скачать бесплатно программный модуль у нас.
- Убедиться в наличии SP1. Если сервисный пакет отсутствует, предварительно установить его.
- Запустить скачанный файл msi соответственно типу ОС Windows 7 x32 или x64.
- Перезагрузить систему.
Устанавливать софт рекомендуется только на оригинальные издания Windows 7/Server 2008 R2. Отличий в инсталляции утилиты на 32-х и 64-битные системы нет. Владельцам более поздних выпусков операционной среды от Microsoft, Виндовс 8, 8.1 и 10, данный продукт не требуется.

Windows update KB3033929
I ran into weird problem with update KB3033929.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 SP1. I tried to install Studio 7 (by Microchip, but it’s Atmel product; Microchip bought Atmel relatively recently). During installation Studio 7 checks for certain Windows updates installed in the system; it informed me that KB3033929 had supposedly never been installed, and quit.
I downloaded the update from Microsoft web site (file Windows6.1-KB3033929-x64.msu), ran it, and got the message that the update had already been installed on my machine.
I invoked Programs an Features, and tried to find KB3033929 in the list of installed updated. It was *not* listed there.
From command window I ran wusa /uninstall /kb:3033929, and got a message that the update was *not* installed on the computer.
At this point I am not sure what to do next. If KB3033929 was indeed installed on my system, I need to make it visible. It it was not, I had to install it somehow so Studio 7 installer can find it and finish installation.
I would truly appreciate helping me solve this issue.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, you missed my point. Maybe I was not clear enough in my post. Let me restate my question.
The issue is not with not having KB3033929 installed. The issue is that the system cannot detect KB3033929 which should have been previously installed, thus preventing me from uninstalling it and reinstalling it. At the same time, an attempt to install KB3033929 ends up with failure, because installer states it has already been installed.
1. Attempt to install KB3033929 from the file downloaded from Microsoft web site (i.e., the link you kindly provided in your post) ends up with a message that the KB3033929 has already been installed.
2. Programs and Features does not list KB3033929 in the list of updates.
3. wmic qfe | find «KB3033929» does not list the KB3033929.
4. KB3033929 can be a part of cumulative update KB3172605. All attempts to locate this update in the list of installed updates failed as well.
5. Finally, a brute attempt to uninstall KB3033929 (in order to reinstall it later and have it registered this time) using wusa /uninstall /kb:3033929 failed too. wusa could not locate KB3033929.
In the meantime I found a work around my primary problem. It turned out that that Studio 7 has an installation option allowing for treating not found updated as warning rather than errors. Using this option allowed me to proceed with installation process and finish it.
That said, I would really want to find out what’s going on with KB3033929, and whether it really was installed or not.
Any suggestions how to do it would be greatly appreciated.
Windows 7 drivers installation failed — make sure hotfix KB3033929 is installed
Sometimes when installing the Audient drivers on a Windows 7 machine, you might come across an error asking you to make sure that hotfix KB3033929 is installed on your computer:
This happens because the Audient drivers require the latest Windows 7 updates, including the convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1, which does not get installed through the automatic Windows Update but requires a manual installation.
In order to install the convenience rollup, you first need to make sure you have done all updates available through Windows Update. To do this:
- Select the Start button >All programs >Windows Update.
- In the left panel, select Check for updates
- Install any updates that are found by Windows.
After this has been done, you are ready to install the convenience rollup. The first step is to determine if you are working on a 32-bit or a 64-bit operating system. To do this:
- Open the Start menu.
- Right-click on Computer, and click on Properties in the context menu.
- See whether the System type: field under System says 32-bit Operating System or 64-bit Operating System.
Now all you need to do is head over to this Microsoft Update Catalog URL containing the convenience rollup update, download either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of the update depending on what your system is using, run the update and follow the on-screen instructions to apply it.
Once the convenience rollup has been installed, you can run the installer for the Audient drivers and it should work without any errors.

Thanks Marvin Bar for tipps. Unfortunately neighter resetting Windows Update components nor Solution from Canadian Tech helped.
It is wondering that I have similar System generated with an image on another notebook, but there is no problem with kb3033929.
Even there the kb3033929 is not listed in «Intalled windows updates» but the same software, that needs the updates coul be installed on another System without poblems.

We suggest that you follow the steps below.
1) Running the following FIX-it (for resolving WUS issues)
LINK: http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058
2) Then change windows update to «manual» update mode (as a posed to install updates automatically)
3) Scan for updates
4) Uncheck and then «hide» KB KB3033929
The update should no longer download or install going forward. You can then revert the WUS to “automatic” if you desire (recommended). Perhaps MS will FIX and re-release this in the future. At that point you could choose to “unhide” the patch and then try to reinstall it at that time.
Let us know the outcome.

Hi Karina, I did the reseting of WUS but kb3033929 dose notappear anywhere that I uncheck it. And installing it manually running Windows6.1-KB3033929-x64 results to statement «KB3033929 is already intalld».

Unfortunately not. All above mentioned methonds do not work.
Moreover I have tried to install kb3033929 on another system separately and now it is not possible to remove anymore.

This is likely caused by introduction of cumulative patch packages by Microsoft.
Starting October 2016, MS started releasing «Security Monthly Quality Rollup» cumulative updates. If you go to catalog.update.microsoft.com and search for kb3033929, then double click on the respective package, then open Package Details tab, you will see a list of such cumulative patches, that incorporate — and therefore also replace — patch KB3033929.
It is hard to say how the software that you’re trying to install is checking for existence of KB3033929 — can be through WMI, registry check, or file version check — and therefore there might not be the one best way to handle that (in case of registry check one could try coping over relevant entries from another PC with this package correctly installed), but what should definitely work:
1. Uninstall every one of those cumulative patches released since October, that are listed on catalog.update.microsoft.com, that you can find on your PC. I am not providing a list here, as I expect it to grow with time and releasing of future Quality Rollup packages.
2. At this point, installation of the standalone KB 3033929 and your software should become possible.
3. Run again MS Update to bring your Windows back to fully updated state.
Supposedly a backup would be due before such operation.
KB3033929 fails to install and cause a minor «infinite» loop
I’m having problems with the KB3033929 update from the latest run of Tuesday patches. After installation the PC reboots, but during the boot up configuration of the patch it fails and Windows starts reverting the configuration and reboots. And then it starts all over again a couple of times until it eventually boot into Windows. I looked into Windows’ setup logs and found the following:
— A reboot is necessary before package KB3033929 can be changed to the Installed state.
— Package KB3033929 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80004005.
— Initiating changes for package KB3033929. Current state is Invalid Installed. Target state is Staged. Client id: WindowsUpdateAgent.
— Package KB3033929 was successfully changed to the Staged state.
So what is wrong?

My computer has Windows on SSD and user home folders on HDD, boot manager is GRUB.

I’m having the same problem. The Update KB3033929 fails to configure on reboot. My log shows that KB3035131 was successfully installed yesterday, and it is listed in the log before KB3033929. Since installation in October 2014, and until today, no updates have failed or been skipped for any reason.
I believe I had the exact same problem on the same machine with the previous update KB2949927 mentioned in the KB3033929 advisory last October. In October I found I had to reinstall Windows and all application software on that machine to finally install KB2949927. It gives me no joy to learn from the KB3033929 Advisory that Microsoft has apparently not found the installation problem and chose to release a similar broken update a second time.
While it is probable that major governments and some major corporations can dedicate the resources necessary to break SHA-1, that’s probably not the weakest point in the security infrastructure of Microsoft Windows. I suggest that the SHA-2 authentication of downloaded programs supported by KB3033929 can wait until this installation problem is found.
I respectfully request that Microsoft once again rescind the update, and correct the problem before releasing a similar update a third time. If Microsoft needs a customer to help isolate the specific problem, I would be willing to spend the time necessary to get it done.
