i am studying the functions of microsoft access and just found out that it is not available on mac. is there a way to get microsoft access on mac or something really similar and having similar functions and controls.

MS Access is still widely-used database software by small to mid-sized companies worldwide. Microsoft does not include Access in their online Office package and it is thus the only software that does not have cloud online access capability. For easy online access to MS Access from your MAC in cloud you can use AppOnFly remote desktop for MS Access instead.

You could access microsoft access databases from a Mac using other apps than microsoft access.

A quick search on google would give you a few results.

But if what your actually want is to use and learn access itself, I would recommend setting up a Virtual machine on you Mac, or a Bootcamp partition.

The only way to use Access on a Mac is to install Windows and the Windows version of Office. I’m using Parallels Desktop on my MBA with Win10 and Office 365. Access runs acceptably fast in this configuration for small databases so for learning purposes that should be acceptable for you. If you need greater speed, install Windows on your Mac using BootCamp.

Genuine Microsoft Access only exists for Windows. There are various Access ‘readers’ for the Mac which do not sound sufficient for your needs, there is also a tool for converting Access files to other formats e.g. FileMaker which again does not sound suitable for your needs.

Beyond that there are I believe some Mac programs for ‘running’ Access databases but again if this is for study purposes I would suggest they also are not suitable.

Really it sounds for your purposes you need 100% genuine Microsoft Access and the only way to do this is to use either Boot Camp which lets you boot your Mac in to real Windows. (You will have to installed Windows.) Or to create a virtual machine on your Mac inside of which you also run genuine Windows, or a final possibility is to use CrossOver Mac which is a way of running some Windows applications on a Mac without having Windows itself.

Microsoft doesn’t make one. Try using LibreOffice.

There really isn’t a way.

You can read the tables into Excel.

Even NaviCat doesn’t seem to have an interface, and they make a lot of them.

I’ve been pretty pleased with LibreOffice Database. Otherwise, if you’re willing to spend a bit of money, FileMaker Pro is very good as a database solution.

I hadn’t considered Sparkleberry’s suggestion to use a VM.

You could also use the free VirtualBox to host the Windows VM to run Access.

You’d still need a copy of Windows and Office for Windows to load on the VM.

But, as I noted before, there doesn’t appear to be a way to create, edit, and search an Access database from a Mac. Windows is required.

If you just need a database, there are quite a few options. If you need one that has a GUI, then it is somewhat limited. Most of the options have already been posted.
