Getting started¶
This launcher has been rewritten in 2020 to use mainly a fake Java Native Interface to communicate with Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Additionally shortly after the release of the first 64bit versions on the Google Play Store, this previously 32bit only Launcher has been ported to arm64 and x86_64.
AppImage¶
Prebuilt AppImage binary’s for linux x86_64, x86, armv7 hardfloat and armv8 are currently available here. After downloading simply open terminal, chmod +x Minecraft_Bedrock_Launcher-x86_64.0.0.661.AppImage and run it. With some Filemanagers you should be able to run it with double click, similar to running a *.exe file on Windows. Otherwise run it from a Terminal ./Minecraft_Bedrock_Launcher-x86_64.0.0.661.AppImage
If it’s your first time you have installed an AppImage and you want an Icon in your startmenu
- install AppImageLauncher
- run the AppImage like before
- AppImageLauncher will ask you to integrate it, press yes
- You can now start and update the Launcher directly from your startmenu
Flatpak¶
You can also install mcpelauncher on Linux via Flathub. To install it, first setup Flatpak then run
If it’s your first time you have installed a Flatpak please logout from your Computer and sign back in to be able to find the Launcher inside your startmenu. To run it, run
macOS¶
Prebuilt macOS binary’s are currently available here. Always copy the App to a writeable location otherwise the updater won’t work.
If you want to compile from sources on macOS go here (Outdated as of 2021-07-27).
Source build¶
If there are no packages available for your distribution, check out the Source build guide.

Probably not. Bedrock is aimed at younger audience. And so far it has been distributed through App Stores. Besides, C++ is not very portable.
I’m a programmer. I use C/C++, BASIC, Assembly, and Python. If i sound too technicial, that’s because it’s the way i think.

I understand, I sometimes program in my spare time, but it would be nice. At least there’s Java Edition! Actually, on Linux Mint Software Manager, I saw an unofficial way to install Minecraft for free and its picture look like PE. Linux kinda has an app store, but it’s different on every distro, you have Chrome on Solus but Chrom ium on Linux Mint.

C++ is almost NEVER USED on* linux because of c++ librarys so C is used instead.
Put your spoiler here.

. What. Are. You. Talking. About.
Bedrock is written in C++, many linux programs are written in C++, it’s just more versatile for new/recoded programs. «Almost never» is just an excuse because C++ came later than C. And C++ is compatible with C.

Wait. One of the reasons you said it wouldn’t happen was because of C++

I am a developer by profession, c/c++ amongst others, and haven’t read much more nonsense in a single thread, than here.
C++ and C are both used A LOT on linux, and are highly cross platform languages. The biggest issue can be the libraries, which is not about the language itself.
You can probably run the normal bedrock version on linux using wine. As it uses opengl and not directx, it’s very likely to just work.
Also note that the bedrock code runs on android devices, which basically is. linux.
This will never work because the bedrock edition runs from the microsoft store as a UWP app.
Wine is used for .exe programs not UWP apps.
And this wouldn’t be the best way even if you could, since there’s already an unofficial port available that gives access to everything including the xbox account sign in, natively, without the need to use any emulator, it also allows something better that the bedrock doesn’t seem to offer, a launcher that allows you to use older versions of bedrock, much like the java edition. (but you can only get those versions if you have the older files in your machine).
Also, don’t confuse android with linux, all android has is a linux kernel, nothing else, you dont have access to apt-get or anything + the android apps are in .apk form, much different from linux.
I play Minecraft since 1.6.2 and Minecraft Pocket Edition since 0.8.1. My xbox IGN is Rubencr7173.

How to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Linux
Nov 25, 2020
Comment
Minecraft Bedrock Edition works on Linux with the help of the Minecraft Bedrock Launcher for Linux. It is an unofficial app that makes the game work on Linux with the Minecraft Android APK.
In this guide, we will go over how to set up Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Linux. However, keep in mind that Minecraft Bedrock Edition requires a Microsoft account, and you will also need to own the Android version of the game on the Play Store.
Installation instructions
To start the installation of the Minecraft Bedrock Edition launcher on your Linux PC, open up a Linux terminal on the desktop. Once the terminal window is open, follow the installation instructions outlined below that corresponds with the distribution you use.
Ubuntu
The unofficial Bedrock Edition launcher is available in Ubuntu. Unfortunately, the app software repository has not been updated to run on Ubuntu 20.04 or 20.10. As a result, if you want to play Bedrock on Ubuntu, you will need to use the Bedrock launcher AppImage instead.
To get the latest AppImage, open up a terminal window. Once the terminal window is open and ready to use, create a new folder with the name of “AppImages” in your home directory using mkdir.
After creating the new folder, use the wget downloader command to download the Minecraft Bedrock Edition AppImage file to your computer.
Once the download is complete, use the chmod command to update the AppImage file’s permissions. Permissions need to be updated so that the AppImage file can run as a program.
With the file’s permissions changed, use the CD command to move into the “AppImages” directory where the launcher file is.
Inside of the “AppImages” folder, you can launch Minecraft Bedrock Edition using the command below. Or, double-click on the Minecraft Bedrock Edition file in the “AppImages” folder with the Linux file manager.
Debian
There’s currently no support for Debian with the Bedrock launcher via a DEB package. However, the AppImage file should work just fine. To get started, open up a terminal window and use the mkdir command to create a new directory called “AppImages.”
After creating the new folder, you will need to download the Bedrock AppImage file from the internet. Using the wget command, grab the file from the internet.
Once the file is done downloading to your Debian Linux PC, you will need to update the file’s permissions using the chmod command.
With the permissions up to date, enter the “AppImages” directory using the CD command.
Inside of the “AppImages” folder, execute the Bedrock launcher using the command below. Alternatively, open up the “AppImages” directory using the Linux file manager and double-click on the AppImage file to start it up.
Arch Linux
On Arch Linux, the Minecraft Bedrock Edition client is available in the AUR. The installation process is not complicated, thanks to the Trizen AUR helper. To install Bedrock on your Arch system, open up a terminal and enter the commands below.
Fedora/OpenSUSE
Both Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux support Flatpak very well. As a result, it is ideal to follow the Flatpak installation instructions to get Bedrock working on your Linux system.
Flatpak
The Minecraft Bedrock launcher is available on Flathub as a Flatpak package. To start the installation process, you will need to install the Flatpak runtime on your computer. Once the runtime is set up, install the Bedrock launcher using the commands below.
Setting up Minecraft Bedrock Edition
To set up Minecraft Bedrock Edition on your Linux PC, open up the Bedrock launcher on your computer via the app menu. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below.
Note: If the game doesn’t load with the latest version, click on the pencil icon, select the drop-down menu next to “Versions,” and download an older release.
Step 1: Look for the “Sign in with Google” button in the launcher window, and click on it with the mouse. Upon selecting this button, a Google sign-in window will appear. Using this window, log into your Google account.
Step 2: After signing in, you’ll see the Bedrock launcher show the “DOWNLOAD AND PLAY” button, with version 1.16.100.04 on the screen. Select this button to download the latest version of the game.
Step 3: Select the “PLAY” button to start up Minecraft Bedrock Edition on your Linux PC to start up the game. When the game starts up, select “Sign In For Free” to log into your Microsoft account.
Upon signing in, you will be able to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on your Linux PC!

Minecraft, also known as the Bedrock Edition is a re-release of Minecraft which unifies the game across multiple platforms. The game runs on the new Bedrock engine and has many new features, including cross-platform play between all platforms using the Bedrock Edition. It also features rentable Realms, new achievements and trophies, cloud saves, and more.
With the release of this Bedrock Edition, all versions except the Apple TV Edition are not supported anymore, as in, only the Bedrock Edition will receive future content updates. Sony has declined the Better Together update and the Apple TV Edition hasn’t received it yet, so those Legacy console editions will keep receiving updates.
Owners of digital copies, or players who played the disc version for more than 5 hours, of the Xbox One Edition and Nintendo Switch Edition got this version as a free upgrade, others will need to buy this version separately.
The original Minecraft PC version got renamed to Minecraft: Java Edition.
