Set screen time limits on your kids’ devices
Learn how to set screen time limits on your child or family member’s Xbox and Windows devices. See how much time they have left for the day, give them more time, or decide time’s up. You can set limits on family.microsoft.com or on the Family Safety app.
To set screen time limits for your child on Xbox and Windows 10 devices:
1. Go to your family group and sign in with your Microsoft account.
2. Find your child or family member’s name and select Screen time.
3. Set the schedule for devices together or separately.
To use the same schedule for all devices, turn on Use one schedule for all devices.
To manage the schedules separately, scroll down to Xbox One and Windows 10 and switch them On or Off individually.
4. Select the schedule for each day, how much time your child has each day, and when they can use the device. By default, Max scheduled will be on, which means they can use the device for the full time range you’ve given them.
5. If you edit your schedule choices, select Add, and then select Save.
1. Tap on the family member that you want to set screen time limits for.
2. Tap on the screen time card or tap set limits.
3. Set limits for when and what days screen time will be available for your child or family member on Xbox or Windows 10 devices.
Note: Screen time limits will only be set if a device is connected. Learn more about connecting devices to family safety.
4. If you want to set limits across both Windows and Xbox, turn on Use one schedule for all devices.
Tip: If you set 4 hours of screen time for both Windows and Xbox using One Schedule, this means that your child or family member can choose how to use their four hours. For example, they can have 1 hour on Xbox and 3 hours on their Windows computer.
Note: Have your child sign out if they’re not actively using their console. Screen time counts down only during the time a child is signed in
How to Find Windows 10 Computer Specifications & Systems Requirements
Here’s an overview of how to find computer specification requirements, versions, and languages available for Windows 10.
Table of Contents
System requirements for installing Windows 10
These are the basic requirements for installing Windows 10 on a PC. If your device does not meet these requirements, you may not have the great experience intended with Windows 10 and might want to consider purchasing a new PC.
Hard drive size:
32GB or larger hard disk
Note: See below under “More information on hard drive space to install or update Windows 10” for more details.
Compatible with DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Internet connectivity is necessary to perform updates and to download and take advantage of some features. Windows 10 Pro in S mode, Windows 10 Pro Education in S mode, Windows 10 Education in S mode, and Windows 10 Enterprise in S mode require an internet connection during the initial device setup (Out of Box Experience or OOBE), as well as either a Microsoft account (MSA) or Azure Activity Directory (AAD) account. Switching a device out of Windows 10 in S mode also requires internet connectivity. Learn more about S mode here.
There may be additional requirements over time for updates, as well as requirements to turn on specific features within the OS.
Keeping Windows 10 up-to-date
Windows 10 is designed to deliver updates for the supported lifetime of the device. Two types of updates may be provided: quality updates and feature updates. Quality updates include both security and non-security updates and are typically targeted to be released once a month. Feature updates also include security and non-security fixes as well as new features to Windows 10 and are typically provided twice a year. Ensuring that your device receives these updates and is kept up-to-date is important for your device security. Windows 10 periodically checks for updates so you don’t have to. When an update is available—and sufficient free disk space is available on your device—it will be automatically installed. So that Windows 10 continues to stay updated, it’s important to ensure your device has sufficient free space. See additional applicable details in the following notes.
Important notes about updates:
- A device might not be able to receive updates if the device hardware is incompatible, if it lacks current drivers or sufficient available hard drive space, or if it’s otherwise outside of the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (“OEM”) support period. Visit the Windows Lifecycle Fact Sheet or the Lifecycle FAQ for Windows products to learn more about the servicing timeline for each feature update.
- Some of the disk space needed for installing updates is only temporarily required. Typically, ten days after installing an update, a disk cleanup will be automatically performed to delete copies of the older, unneeded Windows files and free up space again.
- Not all features in an update will work on all devices.
- An internet connection is required to perform updates and Internet access (ISP) fees might apply.
- If you need assistance installing an update, Windows 10 Update Assistant may be able to help.
More information on hard drive space requirements to install or update Windows 10
The size of the Windows operating system that comes with your device and the amount of space needed to download and install Windows updates, are highly variable as they depend on a variety of factors. Visit here to learn why. The factors that impact the amount of free hard drive space needed to take an update include: the versions of Windows previously installed on the machine, the amount of disk space available to reuse from Windows files, such as the virtual memory pagefile or hibernation file, which applications are installed on your device and how those applications store data. Starting with the May 2019 Update, the system requirements for hard drive size for clean installs of Windows 10 as well as new PCs changed to a minimum of 32GB. The 32GB or larger drive requirement is set to leave space for users to install apps and to keep data on the device. Installing Windows or updating from a previous version of Windows on devices with less than 32GB storage will continue to work if the device has enough free space available. When updating, Windows will attempt to automatically free up enough hard drive space and guide you through freeing up even more if the automatic cleanup is not sufficient. You can also take steps to free up space on your own. For more information, see Free up space to install the latest Windows 10 update or visit the related FAQ.
Feature-specific requirements for Windows 10
In addition to the requirements above that are needed to run Windows, some features have additional requirements. In some cases, features included with updated versions of Windows 10 will be best experienced with newer processors. For specific hardware support please refer to your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Below are some additional details regarding requirements for key features:

BitLocker can be used on devices without TPM, but you will need to save a startup key on a removable device such as a USB flash drive. TPM 2.0 and InstantGo support is required when you want to automatically encrypt the local drive when joining a device to Azure Active Directory (AAD). Check with your PC manufacturer to confirm if your device supports the correct TPM version and InstantGo for the scenario you want to enable.
- BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive (available in Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise only).
- Client Hyper-V requires a 64-bit system with second level address translation (SLAT) capabilities and additional 2 GB of RAM (available in Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise only).
- Cortana is only currently available on Windows 10 for the United States, United Kingdom, China, France, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Spain, Australia and India.
- Microsoft account is required for some features.
- Miracast requires a display adapter which supports Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.3, and a Wi-Fi adapter that supports Wi-Fi Direct.
- Movies & TV application is not available in all regions. For the most up-to-date list of regions, please go to the Movies & TV information page.
- Secure boot requires firmware that supports UEFI v2.3.1 Errata B and has the Microsoft Windows Certification Authority in the UEFI signature database.
- Skype is available only in select countries and regions. Calling to select countries and regions only. Excludes special, premium and non-geographic numbers. For details, visit the Office FAQ page.
- Snap: The number of applications that can be snapped will depend upon the minimum resolution for the application with a limit of two applications in Tablet mode and four applications in Desktop mode.
- Speech recognition will vary by device microphone. For a better speech experience, you will need a:
- High fidelity microphone array
- Hardware driver with microphone array geometry exposed
- Tablet mode is available on tablets and 2-in-1s with GPIO indicators or those that have a laptop and slate indicator will be able to be configured to enter «tablet mode» automatically.
- Touch: To use touch, you need a tablet or a monitor that supports multi-touch.
- Two-factor authentication requires the use of a PIN, Biometric (finger print reader or illuminated infrared camera), or a phone with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities.
- Windows Hello requires a camera configured for near infrared (IR) imaging or fingerprint reader for biometric authentication. Devices without biometric sensors can use Windows Hello with a PIN or a portable Microsoft compatible security key.
- Xbox application requires an Xbox Live account, which is not available in all regions. For the most up-to-date list of regions, please go to Xbox Live Countries and Regions website.
- Wi-Fi Direct Printing requires a Wi-Fi adapter that supports Wi-Fi Direct and a device that supports Wi-Fi Direct Printing.
Windows 10 Time ALWAYS wrong
My date is always correct, but my time is always wrong. Example: Right now it is 8:50 am, but my clock in Windows says 1:50 pm. Here is the situation:
My system is dual bootable, Ubuntu or Windows 10. Ubuntu shows the correct time. I think this rules out a bad cmos battery.
Windows 10 always shows the wrong time. Location settings are correct, time zone settings are correct.
When I select to keep time manually, (turning off the autosync) It is fine. When I reboot, it is wrong again. When I select to automatically have windows set my time, it is fine. When I reboot, it is wrong again.
I’ve gotten to where I keep a clock next to my computer, and fix the time each time I boot into windows. but there has to be an actual solution.

4 Ways to Synchronize Windows 10 Time With Microsoft Server
Olanrewaju Sodiq
24 Feb 2020
The benefits of your Windows computer clock transcend way beyond just telling the time. It needs to be accurate at all times else some apps and programs might not work properly. To ensure that your computer’s clock is always accurate, Windows has a dedicated ‘Time Service’ that syncs your PC’s time to Microsoft’s internet server. Although this synchronization process happens automatically, we’ll show you how to get it done manually and fix issues with syncing system time.
If your computer’s time is incorrect, it most likely isn’t synced with the Windows or Microsoft Time server. In this post, we will show you how to synchronize your Windows PC time with the Microsoft server. Also, how to fix some time synchronization issues. Let’s go.

From Windows Settings
One of the easiest ways to sync Windows PC’s time with the Microsoft server is syncing it manually from the Windows Settings menu. Follow the steps below to get it done.
Step 1: Tap the Windows key + I button simultaneously on the keyboard to launch the Windows Settings menu.
Step 2: Select ‘Time & Language’.
Step 3: In the ‘Date & Time’ section, navigate to scroll down to the ‘Synchronize your clock’ sub-section and tap the ‘Sync now’ button.
That will immediately sync your computer’s clock with the Microsoft time server (usually takes 2 — 5 seconds).
Note: According to Microsoft, it is impossible to guarantee time accuracy on computers that have intermittent or no network connections. Therefore, you should have an active internet connection to effectively sync your computer’s time to the Microsoft Time Server.
It is also important to state that Windows automatically synchronizes your PC’s time with the Microsoft server daily. In the case where you need to manually sync the time, perhaps because your computer’s time configuration is incorrect, you can use the Sync now button in Step 3 above.

Restart the Windows Time Service
Restarting the Windows Time Service from the Windows Services Manager is an another effective way to sync your PC’s clock with the Windows server. For context, the Windows Time Server helps Windows users to maintain the most accurate time on their devices by syncronizing date and time information with the Microsoft Time server actively.
If your computer faces issues with incorrect timing or is always going out of sync with the official Microsoft server, then there might be a problem with the Windows Time service and restarting it could help. Here’s how to get it done.
Step 1: Tap the Windows key + R key simultaneously on your keyboard to launch the Run command dialog box.
Step 2: Type services.msc into the provided box and tap the OK button.
That will launch the Windows Services Manager in a new window. Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate Windows Time services on the page are arranged alphabetically so you shouldn’t have a problem locating it.
Next, enable this service or confirm that it is enabled and functioning properly. Because as Windows warns, date and time synchronization will be unavailable if the Windows Time service is stopped or disabled.
Step 3: Right-click on the Windows Time service and select Start.
If the Windows Time service was enabled and functioning but your PC’s time is still incorrect or not synced to the Microsoft time server, then you should restart the service. Right-click on Windows Time and select Restart.
Step 4: Restart your computer.
Upon restart, you want to also ensure your device is connected to an active internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable) connection.
Re-Register Windows Time DLL file
Some apps and services on Windows make use of Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files to effectively execute their functions and activities. The DLL file responsible for the Windows Time service (W32Time) is the w32time.dll file. If this file goes missing, gets deleted, or corrupted, you might have issues synchronizing your computer’s time with the Windows server.
Re-registering the w32time.dll would help ensure your PC is regularly synced. Here’s how to register it on your PC.
Step 1: Tap the Windows key + X button simultaneously on your keyboard to launch the Windows Quick Access menu.
Step 2: Select ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’.
Step 3: Type in the command below into the Command Prompt console and hit the Enter button.
In less than a minute, you should see a notification that the w32time.dll was successfully registered on your PC.
Step 4: Restart your computer and check to see if your PC’s time is now accurate and syncs correctly with the Microsoft server.
Note: Make sure your computer is connected to an active internet connection.
Replace CMOS battery
If you are sure everything is good with your computer’s Windows Time services and syncing configuration but the time and date remain inaccurate or often go out of sync particularly after a system reboot, there’s a high chance that your PC’s CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) battery is faulty.
The CMOS chip is located on the motherboard. It keeps your PC’s time and date, as well as other configurations, up-to-date every time you turn off your computer. For that, the CMOS chip has its dedicated battery. If that battery is faulty or damaged, your PC’s time and date will always be messed up, so will its syncing with the Microsoft server.
Replacing the CMOS battery requires some technical know-how and expertise. Thatis why we recommend taking your PC to a skilled technician or the manufacturer’s official repair center.
