О нескольких мониторах в ubuntu и mint

Взял я поиграться второй монитор. Он жутко старый, всего 15 дюймов, процарапанный и с искажёнными цветами. Но дали на халяву и он ЖК (ибо элт даже бесплатно никому не надо). Решил протестировать, как отреагируют на него мои системы. Полезность от статьи будет не большая, ибо в ней просто небольшой обзор, без решения конкретных проблем.

Монитор я поставил слева от основного, практически в плотную. Вначале решил загрузится в свою основную систему — linux mint 12.

Сразу же второй монитор стал зеркальным основному, а расширение на обоих стало довольно унылое (15 дюймов всё же). Мне второй монитор нужен для расширения видимого рабочего пространства, так что зеркалка мне не надо.

Сделать, что бы второй монитор был продолжением первого оказалось легко: Системные параметры > Экраны.

Кстати, принтскрин делает скриншот сразу двух мониторов

И уже здесь таскаем мониторы, как нам вздумается, предварительно сняв галочку с «Зеркально отразить экраны».

Что мне понравилось в mint, так это то, что он смог определить, что монитор с большим расширением является основным и именно на нём находятся все основные элементы управления.

После нажатия кнопки «Применить» возможно рабочий стол слегка перекосится, я решил проблему выйдя и зайдя в сеанс.

В целом мне очень понравилось, как mint Отреагировал на второй монитор. Он запоминает положение окон при закрытие/сворачивании; при переключение на второй виртуальный стол, доп. монитор остаётся статичным; значки на рабочем столе не зависимы от монитора. И в целом работается приятно.

Затем я решил глянуть, как обстоит дело в ubuntu. Начало было точно такое же, как и в mint (то же было зеркальное отображение). Однако, я так и не смог заставить ubuntu поверить, что мой основной монитор самсунг. Тот монитор, который левее и выше, тот и будет главным, с точки зрения ubuntu.

Установка припроетарных драйверов для ati ситуацию не улучшили, возможно с nvidia будет иначе. Думаю всё основная проблема в юнити панели. Возможно это возможно, как-то решить через конфиг, но, как писалось выше, это просто маленькая обзорная статья.

Наткнулся на видео, где у человека стоит 6 мониторов, но даже там видно, что основной левый верхний.

Так, что, пока самый просто вариант — это поставить дополнительный монитор справа. Ну… или сидеть на минте, как я.

Кстати, в качестве второго монитора можно подключать не только сами мониторы, но также телевизоры и даже планшеты. В последнее время всё более популярными становятся китайские планшеты. Да, они обычно менее мощные, чем фирменные, зато они стоят в разы дешевле. А иногда они даже удобнее. Например, можно найти хорошего китайца с двойной батарейкой, который будет работать более 10 часов в режиме напряжённой работы, чего не сможет сделать ни один фирменный планшет.

Можно ли настроить отображение панели задач Linux Mint на двух мониторах?

Добрый день.
Вопрос по Linux Mint c Cinnamon.
У меня два монитора. Хочу на первом вести основную работу, а на дополнительном держать открытыми всякие фоновые программы, чтобы периодически на них посматривать.

Но при этом панель задач одна (на основном мониторе) и там висят плашки всякой фоновой ерунды со второго монитора, что при активной работе немного мешает, да и просто раздражает.

Можно ли на двух разных мониторах сделать по отдельной панели задач, чтобы в каждой отображались плашки для окон, открытых только на этом мониторе?

Вопрос старый, но может кому сэкономит время.
Тыкался с этим битый час. Оказалось все «интуитивно», и ставить расширения не обязательно.
Дистрибутив Cinnamon 18.1

Параметры системы => Панель
Жмем «Добавить новую панель» выбираем место на втором мониторе.

Но, внезапно, задачи не попадают на новую панель, она так и остается пустой.
Чтобы заработало нормально, правый клик на панели основного монитора => Изменить панель => «Копировать конфигурацию апплетов». На новой панели дополнительного монитора соответственно
«Вставить конфигурацию апплетов».

После копирования конфигурации получаем две самостоятельные панели для каждого монитора. На каждую попадают окна открытые на соответствующем мониторе.

• KDE — 2 самомстоятельных панели всегда, хоть с общими задачами, хоть только те что с нужного экрана.
• тот же Tint2 (отдельная панель задач независимая от DE) — тоже вроде умеет показывать то, что на текущем экране открыто

Avas , ставится также как и многое другое — apt install tint2
запустить можно командой tint2 в терминале, если все устроит — добавить в автозапуск.

Немного по его базовой настройке есть здесь, ближе к концу статьи

Так им без разницы где находиться, по большому счету

Странно что корица не умеет, надо проверить наверное тоже эту фичу там

1. What is the model number of the Lenovo monitor?

2. Post the Xorg.0.log file. Open the System Log in the Menu to view it. Press Ctrl+A to select the entire file contents. Right click on the screen and select “Copy”. Don’t save it to a file. Open the Mint Forum reply window and select “Code” in the menu. Press Ctrl+V to paste the lines between the two code words. If you have problems posting that long file, then upload it to github.com by using this command:

You’re connecting one monitor to the Nvidia card and one to the Intel GPU. This setup won’t work using Mint Cinnamon, unless the nouveau driver is used. It may work using MATE or Xfce. I was recently involved in a related topic in this same forum about connecting multiple monitors to two different Nvidia cards using Mint 18.1 Xfce and it worked: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=243882

A custom xorg.conf file would need to be created, with Xorg’s Xinerama feature enabled. You also may need to set the Integrated graphics (Intel) as the Primary Graphics Device in the BIOS.

The easiest solution is connecting both monitors to the Nvidia card but an adapter for one of the monitors may be needed.

I don’t understand what that means. The nouveau driver is for Nvidia graphics. You have Intel and AMD graphics.

Would you post the info I previously requested. Open the Terminal and type inxi -SMCGx . Copy the lines and then open the Mint Forum reply window. Select at the top. Press the Ctrl+V buttons to paste the copied lines into a code display window.

Also, are you trying to connect one or more monitors to both the AMD and Intel GPUs?

I don’t think you can change what GPU and what monitor that is connected to it will display any info during startup. That’s determined by the BIOS.

Are both monitors in mirror mode when you get to the desktop? If they are, and removing the mark in the checkbox next to the Mirror displays option in System Settings > Display does not change that, then use this command to remove the monitors.xml file:

Now I think I understand your problem. Why don’t you disable the Intel GPU in the BIOS and connect both monitors to the AMD Graphics card. You may need to use an adapter.

The only difference between the two inxi -Gx outputs is the FAILED: intel words.

Did you use this command to update the X.Org X Server from version 1.18 to 1.19?
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-hwe-16.04

EDITED : that command should be sudo apt install xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04

That command removes all the open-source graphics drivers, which includes xserver-xorg-video-intel and xserver-xorg-video-radeon .

After the failed amdgpu-pro driver installation, the modesetting driver will be loaded after a reboot. The Xorg.0.log file will show this as modeset(0) . To restore the radeon driver, use this command:

Driver from AMD website: amdgpu-pro-18.10-572953
Kernel: 4.13.0-43-generic

I didn’t use the command for update X Server to 1.19

To install amdgpu-pro I use this topic viewtopic.php?f=59&t=248059
a little bit outdated. Mainly I’ve change ubuntu by linuxmint in the install script.

I can’t install radeon-hwe-16.04 becaus of 2 missing dependances :
xorg-video-abi-23
xserver-xorg-core-hwe-16.04
and an error about «keep in state» packet mod

The author of that topic has not updated the list of AMD video cards that are supported by the amdgpu-pro driver. I just recently got a cheap Radeon R7 240 video card which initially was not supported but now is.

Some of the other users mentioned that they were able to install the amdgpu-pro 17.50 driver using kernel 4.13.

Just two days ago, I noticed that the amdgpu-pro 18.10 driver was available. After several attempts, I was able to install it using the 4.13.0-43 kernel but not the 4.15 kernel.

If you want to try installing the amdgpu-pro driver again, then use these steps:

1. First use this command to remove any possible files left from the first unsuccessful installation:

That command can be used from any directory.

2. If you have the 4.15 kernel installed, then it needs to be removed and then reboot.
3. Install the 4.13.0-43 kernel if it’s not already installed and reboot.
3. Use this command to update the X.Org X Server from version 1.18 to 1.19 and reboot:

4. Go to the amdgpu-pro-18.10-572953 folder. You already changed the word ubuntu to linuxmint in line 88 of the amdgpu-pro-install file. Right click in the empty space and select Open in Terminal .

5. Use this command to start the installation, which is what AMD says to use for your video card:
