Imperium Galactica II: Alliances released for Linux & SteamOS, seems native too
Imperium Galactica II: Alliances [GOG, Steam] just released for Linux & SteamOS and it looks like it’s a native version.
Note: My friends at GOG sent over a copy, so big thanks to them.
There’s no sign of DOSBox or Wine and I had no idea this game had ever been ported to Linux. Pretty awesome really for a game like this to get a proper Linux build when it gets a new release.
This is me running it on Antergos, lovely.
I never got to play this one, but I was a massive fan of the original Imperium Galactica and spent days in it.
If you buy it on GOG be sure to grab «libGLEW.so.1.13» as GOG don’t bundle any libs with their games. This is an older version, so on Arch I had to install it from the AUR. Once I had that sorted, it runs perfectly well and I haven’t seen any issues.
Even with my two-monitor setup, it gave me the right monitor and set everything correctly. It works better than a lot of recent games.
It seems this is a newer remastered version with: — Updated rendering engine to support arbitrary screen resolutions and aspect ratios — Updated, higher resolution user interface textures — Updated lighting and shadowing quality on planet surfaces — Updated planet view mode — Added server browser for multiplayer mode

Open Imperium Galactica (Open-IG) is an open source Java TM reimplementation of the Digital Reality game Imperium Galactica, a popular, 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) real-time space strategy game developed around 1996 in Hungary.
The project contains all necessary files (with the permission from the copyright owner Digital Reality) to run the game standalone, there is no need for the original Imperium Galactica files.

Переведены парящие сообщения об исходе симулированных сражений
Переведены названия планет
Нарисован новый чёткий шрифт
Кодовая таблица игры адаптирована под русский шрифт
Скомбинирована озвучка из разных изданий («Фаргус» — бОльшая часть, Русский Проект, 7Wolf, оригинал)
Добавлены отсутствующие буквы, исправлена неверные коды некоторых букв («Ы» вместо «М», «Ь» вместо «ч», «щ» вместо «ш», . )
Исправлена ошибка в 4-ой части обучения (при перемещении танков ничего не происходило)
Исправлена ошибка при запуске («не могу найти charset.bmp»)
Переведены сообщения об ошибках
Переведены настройки игры
Переведена на русский графика: анимированный «BUILD» на колонии, кнопки «Start», «Stop», «Double money» на экране исследований, иконка «Stop» у зданий.
Русифицирован Setup
Добавлены новые рабочие разрешения
Удалено нерабочее разрешение 1280х1024
Исполняемые файлы упакованы UPX (кроме основного экзешника)
Добавлено 4 новых сценария (полностью русифицированы)
Полностью переведены тексты игры (в том числе кампании, сценарии), исправлены многочисленные корявости, неточности и ошибки перевода
Удалены неиспользуемые файлы текстур, векторов, анимации, а также вектора и текстуры для режима низкого качества (ссылки исправлены, дабы не вешать игру при выборе режима низкого качества)
Удалены ненужные файлы (защита от копирования, файлы разработчиков, левый декодер и прочая дрянь)
DAT-файлы лучше сжаты
Обработаны видеоролики: видеодорожка скопирована из оригинала и не пережималась (официальная английская версия), звуковая дорожка взята из версий Русского проекта (бОльшая часть) и Фаргуса (2 ролика, невнятно озвученные РП). Таким образом, получилось видео максимального качества 🙂
Уменьшен размер игры засчёт удаления дублей, видеороликов низкого разрешения (версии роликов с высоким разрешением полностью сохранены)
Удалено требование игрой диска
Логи и дампы перемещены из корня в отдельную папку
Увеличена скорость запуска игры
Снижено потребление игрой памяти (незначительно)
Исправлена ошибка неотображения названий планет
Переведены строки, никогда не переводившиеся ранее («зашитые» в самом экзешнике)
Русифицированы названия продаваемых кораблей и танков, имена торговцев и шпионов (в т.ч. в сетевой игре), названия флотов
Подобраны наилучшие элементы меню (шрифт + перевод)
Исправлена ошибка в сценарии «Светлое сердце» (ошибка с планетой Central 6)
Исправлены ссылки на видеоролики в кампаниях, добавлены новые, где это имеет смысл
Активирован второй звук для строительства зданий
Произведена реструктуризация ресурсов игры: ресурсы сгруппированы по логическому признаку, игра разбита на логические модули (сценарии, кампании, обучение, помощь, различные опциональные звуки, ролики, шрифт и т.д.)
Исправлены ошибки CRC
Очищена таблица рекордов
Удалены лишние файлы режима обучения
Удалены лишние звуки
Написан новый конфигуратор IG2 Settings, который (в отличие от родного) не дёргает экран и предлагает правильные и только правильные разрешения
Исправлены критические ошибки в нескольких файлах кампании
Звуки объединены в один архив
1. Устанавливаем .NET (2.0 либо последний) и DirectX (любой не старее 2007 г. — стандартного в XP недостаточно), если ещё не установлено. 2. Запускаем IG2 Settings. Выбираем и сохраняем настройки. 3. Запускаем игру (ig2.exe).
Не ставьте поверх сборки никакие русификаторы или патчи. Любой из них сделает сборку неработоспособной, поскольку игра реструктуризована. Эта сборка уже содержит все улучшения предыдущих патчей!
