Modern, scalable web apps with .NET and C#

Use .NET and C# to create websites based on HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript that are secure, fast, and can scale to millions of users.

Interactive web UI with C#

Blazor is a feature of ASP.NET for building interactive web UIs using C# instead of JavaScript. Blazor gives you real .NET running in the browser on WebAssembly.

Dynamically render HTML with Razor

Razor provides a simple, clean, and lightweight way to create dynamic web content using HTML and C#.

With Razor you can use any HTML or C# feature. You get great editor support for both, including IntelliSense, which provides auto-completion, real-time type and syntax checking, and more.

Seamless integration with your data

The popular Entity Framework (EF) data access library lets you interact with databases using strongly typed objects.

Most popular databases are supported, including SQLite, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2 and more, as well as non-relational stores such as MongoDB, Redis, and Azure Cosmos DB.

Build secure web apps

ASP.NET provides a built-in user database with support for multi-factor authentication and external authentication with Google, Twitter, and more.

ASP.NET supports industry standard authentication protocols. Built-in features help protect your apps against cross-site scripting (XSS) and cross-site request forgery (CSRF).

Scaffolding, forms, and validation

Quickly scaffold user interfaces to interact with your data model, including query and update.

Dynamically generate HTML forms based on your strongly typed data model. Declaratively define validation rules, using C# attributes, which are applied on the client and server.

Built-in support for JavaScript UI frameworks

ASP.NET integrates seamlessly with popular JavaScript frameworks. Get started quickly with ASP.NET and React or Angular, using preconfigured templates.

Model View Controller (MVC)

MVC is a design pattern used to decouple user-interface (view), data (model), and application logic (controller). ASP.NET has built-in support for the MVC pattern, making it easy to follow this design pattern.

Instantly deploy Windows apps as HTML5 desktop applications

HTML5 desktop application: Among the most significant transformations brought about by cloud and virtualization technologies is the location-agnostic and device-agnostic applications that are proliferating across corporate networks. With cloud technology, businesses are now able to centrally host resources such as applications, data, and VDI desktops in a datacenter and publish them to any remote device, allowing them to create and manage virtual offices across the globe proactively. According to Gartner, the worldwide public cloud services market earned $175 billion in 2015. This value is expected to increase to $204 billion by the end of this year. According to IDC, the virtualization market was valued at $3 billion in 2015, with its value expected to increase to $4.6 billion by 2020, at a compound annual growth rate of 8.9%. IT is experiencing a massive transformation, with nearly all data, applications, hardware, and software moving into the virtual world, or a software-defined infrastructure. We’ve seen the latest movement in this direction with Microsoft’s new Windows Server 2019.

The rise of HTML5-based web apps

In a virtual environment, client machines run client software to access the server. This mechanism fails when you are using a new device to access the server from a new location. It might be tempting to use clientless SSL VPN connections to access the central server, however, the complexity of managing them can prove to be a challenge. Additional plug-ins are also required for this to work. This is where the role of HTML5-based web apps come into play.

Web-based clients have the following advantages:

  • Using web-based applications means that you automatically reduce the burden of deploying client software in each endpoint.
  • With the absence of client software, you do not have to check its version in the client machine, as web client updates happen automatically and periodically.
  • HTML5-based web apps have easier updates since these updates do not have to be done at individual endpoints.
  • Fixing bugs is also easier for web-based clients.
  • HTML-5 based wen apps are platform-independent, hence making support and maintenance comparatively easier.
  • You can access HTML5-based web apps if you have the authorization to do so, from any device and any location at any time without the need for additional installation and deployment procedures.
  • Administrator rights checking is not required in web-based clients.
  • HTML5-based web apps are easily adaptable in mobile applications, thus improving the flexibility of access to the server.

Needless to state, the huge advantages of HTML5-based web apps over client software and clientless SSL VPN connections have led to their rise.

Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) HTML5 Client

HTML5 Desktop Application

Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) offers an HTML5 Client that enables businesses to transform any Windows application into a web app easily. You don’t have to install the RDP client software on the end-user devices. In addition, the installation of plug-ins such as Flash, Java, or Silver Light is not required. The only requirement is an HTML5-enabled browser, which nowadays covers almost every web browser available. Using this browser, users can simply access Windows applications as web apps from any location, anytime, and from any device. The client devices can range from Windows and Mac to iOS and Android. Cross-functionality becomes easy. Moreover, using web apps with the Parallels HTML5 Client results in the rich rendering of graphics, augmented by a highly intuitive user interface. With SSL and an HTTPS gateway, connections are highly secure.

HTML5 Client

The HTML5 Client is a part of the Parallels Secure Client Gateway; you don’t have to install it separately. It is available by default and can be activated by enabling a checkbox from the intuitive Parallels RAS Console. The HTML5 Client launches all the apps within the browser window. Users do not need any additional plug-ins, software, or set up to get this up and running. All they need is the HTML5 Client URL and their domain user login credentials.

HTML5 desktop application browsing enriched with Parallels RAS

Parallels RAS can transform any Windows application into a web app instantly. From an administrative perspective, Parallels RAS eliminates the need for IIS, simplifying IT management. The HTML5 Client is available by default. You can manually enable it while adding a gateway to the site, or manually go to the gateway of any site and configure the properties, allowing you to use the Parallels client within the gateway. You can even embed the HTML5 client into other web pages. As an end-user, you can simply type the link in the HTML5 browser address bar and access the resources after successful authentication.

Parallels RAS is a comprehensive tool for virtualization networks. It is easy to deploy and use. As most features come auto-configured, IT management is simplified. Most importantly, it is significantly more affordable than the competition.

How to handle HTML content in Windows 8 Metro App

I’m designing a Windows 8 Reader App, and I have to use a control to show the HTML content, which is fetched from some website feeds. Cause those HTML content may contains images or some other formatted text, now I’m using a richtextblock to show the HTML content, but it costs a lot of time to parse the HTML content.

So I’m wondering if there is any controls that can handle the HTML content except the WebView.

Updated: The reason I can’t use WebView is that I need to implement pagination, like the image belowed:

As JP Alioto mentioned you should use the WebView control.

You can use the NavigateToString method to load the HTML. Or use Navigate to request a URI.

There are issues however with using the WebView control, specifically it is rendered differently and is not a standard control, this means things like your app bar or settings pane will not render on top of the WebView, there is a workaround by using the WebViewBrush to «paint» the WebView to standard control such as a rectangle when needed.

Also you can make a screenshot of the webpage you want to display. But to make a screenshot of webpage it’s also not easy to do, but I offer you to make it with some special sites wich are created to take screenshot of other websites. Then you can download an image this sites return and open and display it in your windows 8 app. I show You some example how to I did that:

I think there are only two options but none of them are really good:

Use WebView and transform your HTML with CSS and other techniques to look native. Use the ScriptNotify and NavigationStarting and other events to navigate to another page. In W8.1 the WebView is much better (eg. treated as regular control not floating over all other controls. )

package.json

src/index.js
