You can install our last 32-bit compatible version by right-clicking Hollow Knight in your Steam library, click Properties, Betas, and select 1.4.3.2.

I did that, but the game works strange, crash, next reopen, and exit STEAM but the game still working but without STEAM CLIENT not controller not achievements not nothing.

Looks a UNITY problem, I suppose.

my recommendation is return to the last version, forget the update, because after the update, I can’t play normal, I need tricks to start, but I can’t maintain STEAM CLIENT working because close (very strange).

We’re currently investigating an issue where some users can’t launch the latest update, or the 1.4.3.2 «beta». While we work towards a solution, there’s a few things we found that may help in the meantime:

You can install our last 32-bit compatible version by right-clicking Hollow Knight in your Steam library, click Properties, Betas, and select 1.4.3.2.

Uninstall the game, and then clear the download cache by opening Preferences > Downloads and then clicking «CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE». Then try reinstalling the game (but select the 1.4.3.2 beta first if you’re using it!)

Right-click Hollow Knight in your steam Library, select Manage > Browse local files
Right click hollow_knight.app and select Show Package Contents
Open Contents>MacOS and find a file called either «hollow_knight» or «Hollow Knight»
If the file is currently called «hollow_knight», rename it to «Hollow Knight» and vice versa
Move back up to the Contents folder and open Info.plist in a text editor
Find the key «CFBundleExecutable» and change the name between the tags below it to match the new name of the file you renamed inside the MacOS folder

I did all steps and nothing. the beta version, only works 2 times, later of that? nothing, worse

I’m 90% of the game, I want to complete, but how? if I can’t launch

We’ve put version 1012 of Hollow knight live on our beta-osx- branch. If you’re a Mac user and would like to test Hollow Knight, jump in there and give us your feedback! We’d really appreciate it.

Directions:

Right-click on Hollow Knight in your Steam Library pane.
Click on the Betas Tab
Select bet-osx-
Steam should begin downloading the current Mac Beta.

Please note: The Mac build of Hollow Knight will be receiving more performance optimisation, and we’re mainly using the beta to detect any new Mac specific bugs. For now, avoid sending through performance related issues unless something is obviously broken.

Submit any discovered bugs through to http://hollowknight.com/bugs and specify that you’re playing on a Mac in the platform dropdown.

Playing the Mac version requires you own a copy of the game through Steam.

I’ll add to this as I find more bugs.
Just want to say, loving the game so far. Really enjoy playing.

First off, I wasn’t able to launch the game via steam, which tells me there’s a missing executable. To run the game I had to navigate to the game’s folder inside the steam folder and launch it from there.

Most of the game runs flawlessly for me, but in some areas I experience choppiness to what I imagine is around 20 fps. It occurs exclusively in certain rooms and happens every time, the best example of which I’ve found is the first room in soul sanctuary. Makes the soul twister in that area much harder to kill, and the wall jump very hard to attempt. I’ve centred the camera on that area in This Screenshot [imgur.com]

when using the grubsong charm the soul vessel doesn’t always fully fill and instead stops just shy of reaching the top of the main vessel. The smaller vessels are filled afterwards regardless, but when healing/spellering it’s a problem as you get 2 rather than 3 actions before nothing happens, even when the vessel should be completely full.

Some times when exiting/entering an area the game will just freeze or load indefinitely, showing a black screen. No amount of waiting seems to help.

There’s one small gap in the Resting Grounds ( here [imgur.com] ) which seems as though the player should be able to fit through but can’t. A wall needs to be broken to get inside, but it’s as if the wall is still there. Hitting the empty gap shows a hit [imgur.com] on what appears to be nothing. I’ve revisited this area repeatedly and had the same problem.

After fighting Gorb the great mind, a sound still plays at his memorial. Using the dream nail will activate the boss fight music and spawn all those goldish patterns. This can even be repeated to spam the screen with beautiful patterns [imgur.com] . (best proof I have) The boss does not respawn after killed once. Not game breaking, but surely not intentional.

Some enemies may be invisible upon spawning. I’ve even had this happen to me for a boss. Happened on a variety or enemies across a variety of areas, not too common, usually fixed reloading the area or fight or quit and reload.

Final boss, Hollow Knight is consistently invisible. guess I’d better rack my 90% to 100 in the meantime I suppose.

rarely, some npc’s will have their textures misplaced with some random enemy. I’ve seen this happen to the charm bug and with Nailmaster Nato [imgur.com]

Rarely, after dying, the camera may take some position that doesn’t even cover the player. This seems to have a chance of happening when respawning-by-environmental-hazard.

Very very rarely, dying or entering an area can cause a crash.

In the sewers, there’s a sign next to poisonous water. Interacting with this shows an empty text box which can’t be exited from, effectively a crash.

Using the dream nail on the king in the white palace showed ‘Kings dying message’ or something like that. Didn’t seem right.

Also, would like to see a button assignment for the controller to open the inventory.

keen eye.
i wasnt aware hollow knight had native m1 support.
well i can’t enable or disable rosetta 2, so i guess my laptop recognizes it as non native.
maybe it messed something up internally when they removed the native support.

anybody here with an intel mac who has the same issue?

Same issue on my Intel Macbook Pro running Big Sur (latest 11.4). Completely reinstalled/redownloaded the game didn’t help.

You can also downpatch to the previous version by opting into the beta for the previous version by right clicking on HK in your library, selecting «properties», then «betas» then opting into «1.4.3.2 — 32-bit compatibility»

I just tried this, and it works for me on my M1 Macbook Pro.

A quick note for mod users — after opting into the beta, you might need to open ModInstaller and make sure Modding API is up to date.

My error code was slightly different than what’s getting posted here (4294956486), so it’s possible that this won’t work for you folks.
