Firefox crashes linux mint

Firefox crashes linux mint

I was having troubles with the Cinnamon desktop and had to switch video cards. I found Firefox crashed right away. I then replaced the video card and reloaded from scratch and the Cinnamon desktop works fine but Firefox still goes straight to crash report. In fact I tested and even Thunderbird goes straight to crash report. It does appear to send out the info and it created a report but I can’t do a copy and paste of the report since I can’t send anything out myself. The version that came with the Linux Mint 19.1 Distro 32 bit should be a 32 bit version. Both Firefox and Thunderbird is working fine on my other two 64 bit machines running Mint 19.1 64 bit.

Chosen solution

I tried hunting through my library and did not find a flashplayer plugin. I don’t know if that was an oversight in the build of 32 bit version of Linux Mint 19 since there is no troubles with the 64 bit version. I did find that there is a newer version of flashplayer called PEPPERFLASH for Linux Mint. I used the following to install it. sudo apt-get -y install browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash

Afterwards I found it available as a download by searching for PEPPERFLASH.

If you can’t get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser/explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\ \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\ \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/ /Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/ /.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Copy the most recent 5-7 File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box.

I can’t do a copy and paste of the .txt files so this is all I get when opening the files. Since internet access is not working on that PC I do a copy and paste to a USB stick and then plug it into another PC to upload it. Firefox crashes endlessly

Firefox crashes endlessly

Post by Oldimbiber » Mon Aug 17, 2015 11:40 am

I have been a Firefox advocate since its inception. With each new edition, more features have been added, and with the features come more problems.
Now on Mint Cinnamon 17.2, we were gifted with Firefox 40.0 and I have never ever experienced so many crashes. A friendly little popup comes up each time it crashes telling me that they are sending information to Mozilla. After entering Firefox again, the same crash usually occurs.

I have had it! Software is there to accomplish tasks, not to sit around gnashing teeth wondering when the next crash will prevent work being done.

Last night, I installed Chromium, transfered my bookmarks and have not experienced a single crash. Firefox, SAYONARA.

Indeed this reads like a statement and not like a request for help, so moved the topic to open chat.

It might be one of your plugins, extensions, or themes not working properly in the new Firefox. You might try starting it with «firefox —safe-mode» to confirm Firefox works fine, or start with a new profile. Chromium is also a find browser of course, so if you’re happy with that let’s say case closed.

I use FireFox 40 and Chrome, mostly FireFox every single day (it is on all day) without issues. The only time I had problems was with certain plug-ins, and or some extensions. You could try starting FireFox in safe mode, as was suggested, to determine if one of your add-ons or extensions is the cause of your problems.

There is one extension in particular that is highly recommended, might be «No Script», or another HTTPS add-on, that when I had it installed, it constantly interfered with using Firefox, always asking me too many questions, some people claimed it also caused crashes. I finally disabled it, & removed it, then I had no problems, smooth.

Have you tried Pale Moon? It’s a version of Firefox before the bloat, so it’s very fast.

There is surely much to criticize, what Mozilla does, and the loss of market share shows, that this is something what many users feel.

But in one point the old experience is still valid: Problems as described by InkKnife are near to always a problem inside the FF-profile, where Mozilla has only limited control. I have described the method to break this down very often (and I surely will have to do this very often again), but for the OP the thread seems to be finished (although marking it as Solved is not there), so I will not do this on this place.

Firefox 81.0 is crashing (SOLVED)

Firefox 81.0 is crashing (SOLVED)

Post by blueredgreen » Thu Sep 24, 2020 7:52 am

Installed firefox 81,0 from update manager and I get the crash dialog box when I try to open. If I restart firefox it freezes system.

Mint mate 18 kernel 4.4.0-116

Firefox extensions installed are only noscript and adblocker ultimate.

With prior firefox versions, sometimes firefox would not render quite properly but I would just close once and reopen with no problems.

I have same problem.

Linux Mint Mate 18, kernel 4.4.0-87-generic.

I have many gtk errors when i run firefox with terminal, so it’s graphical problem who making bug and freeze.

Just one question, before your upgrade, did you have this option no activated (title bar disable) :

When you write «firefox» in a terminal and press enter, what error do you have ?
Is it gtk error ?

Annyway, before you try to repair this problem, if you want keep your configuration, make copy of this folder :
/home/user/.mozilla

Sorry for my bad english ^^

At first it did not but when I started to change things it crashed again, but you started me on fixing this.

And, yes, Mamie_Jacqueline, most of the problem is with title bar setting.

I did the following:

Renamed the .mozilla folder and rebooted to create new .mozilla folder, then several tweaks and reboots of firefox settings and extensions.

Installed only noscript extension, nothing else.

Left the ugly title bar as default .. also left the density tab bar to normal, not to compact. Changed as little as possible to firefox configurations (did not add the search bar, for example).

The problem I think is noscript not getting along with the title bar and maybe other firefox settings .. almost like the noscript icon in top right of browser just does not get along with the rest ..

Noscript is most important for me so it stays .. I did not add adblocker ultimate back on and will just go with this as my mint 18 will be replaced in a few months.

If all this works, I will mark this solved in a few days.

I am using Linux Mint for about 4 years. Recently upgraded from Linux Mint 19.3 to 20.1which came with what I believe was Firefox 85. Worked fine. Problems started when I received the update to Firefox 86 Firefox 86 keeps on crashing upon startup Removed and reinstalled Firefox but the issue remains. Updated Firefox, updated Linux. Started Firefox in safe mode and it crashes.

Crash ID: bp-1e08a24b-58eb-4381-8526-d8af50210315

What can I do to resolve this issue?
