Courier New font family

Overview

Designed as a typewriter face for IBM, Courier was re drawn by Adrian Frutiger for IBM Selectric series. A typical fixed pitch design, monotone in weight and slab serif in concept. Used to emulate typewriter output for reports, tabular work and technical documentation.

Courier New version history

Version 2.55 — This WGL4 version of Courier New was first supplied with the Final Windows 95 euro update that shipped on 4 November 1998. This version contains the euro.

Version 2.50 — This version of Courier New is supplied with European versions of Windows 98. North American users can add it by installing multilanguage support. This version contains the euro.

Version 2.45 — This Win ANSI version of Courier New is supplied with the US version of Windows 98.

Version 2.01 — This special version of Courier New is only supplied with the beta version of the Windows 95 euro update patch.

Version 2.00 (Win ANSI) — This Win ANSI version of Courier New is supplied with Windows 95.

Version 2.00 (WGL4) — This WGL4 version of Courier New is supplied with Windows 95 and Windows NT4. This version does not contain the euro.

Version 1.00 — This version was supplied with Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

Creator’s Update — Courier New

Well, my PC was updated, and I spend a lot of time in putty sessions.

The first thing I noticed was how awful it was to read. When I did a comparison I found they’ve changed the courier new font.

Is it time to find a new font? I really don’t want to. Maybe a public alternative? It would be nice just to use the built in font, but this is not suitable for development, or just reading. Or maybe there was some system wide rendering change I can undo?

I found the older version of Courier New (Version 6.9) on a previous Windows 10 installation media I had

I uploaded the font family to my DropBox account.

It is in a folder, download the folder, inside the folder are 4 fonts, right click each file and choose install, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the original (old) font, choose yes

I had to take one PC on my network back to Anniversary because of losing keyboard and mouse on KVM switch. The 4 courier new font 6.90 look great. So I copy them to an directory. Switch over to Creator and delete the 4 courier new font 6.90. Went to my directory and installed the Anniversary 4 courier new font 6.90. I was now expecting Creator to look as good as the Anniversary but they look as bad as before. So its not the fonts. Its the program that uses the fonts.

Font in Windows 10 — CHANGED TO COURIER NEW

Since this morning the font on my laptop for Windows 10 all changed to Courier New, including on my Final Draft Document. In Word everything is now Courier New, and you can’t change it to anything else. It will show as Times Roman etc., on the drop down list, but still coming out as Courier New. Any ideas what can be causing this!

Very frustrating, and would really appreciate advice, and if I’m not alone in having this problem! Any idea how to fix or what has caused it?

Are you aware of any recent changes to your computer prior to this ?

Perform an SFC (System File Checker) scan on your system for any corrupted file settings.

1. Press Windows + X on your keyboard.
2. Select Command prompt admin.
3. At the command prompt type “sfc /scannow” (no quotes), and then press ENTER.

Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

If this was caused after a recent Windows update, then try the suggestion below.

1. Go to control panel followed by Programs and features.
2. Remove/Add Program >> View Installed Windows Updates >> add the column to display installation date, reverse sorted and check the latest KB update then Uninstall it.

Check if it fixes the issue.

According to your description, you could uninstall it and reinstall it.

Then try to reset ClearType to check.

Disabling Clear Type by clearing the tick box next to Turn on Clear Type should revert to default Windows

If the issue still insists, I suggest that you could perform an In-Place Upgrade to repair.
