pacman -Ss something

pacman -Sl | grep something

pacman -Ss something

pacman -Sl | grep something

[root@myhost nikita]# pacman -Ss something community/xmove 2.0beta2-3 A tool to move X windows to different X servers, something like a GNU screen for X.

См. chakra-project.org.

community/xmove 2.0beta2-3 A tool to move X windows to different X servers, something like a GNU screen for X.

UPDATE:2019,this apps no longer available on AUR.
This software is available on AUR. But for better Function you need to install these packages first:

$wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pa/package-query/package-query.tar.gz
$tar -xvzf package-query.tar.gz
$cd package-query
$makepkg -s
$sudo pacman -U *.pkg.tar.xz

$wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ya/yaourt/yaourt.tar.gz
$tar -xvzf yaourt.tar.gz
$cd yaourt
$makepkg -s
$sudo pacman -U *.pkg.tar.xz

$wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/re/repacman/repacman.tar.gz
$tar -xvzf repacman.tar.gz
$cd repacman
$makepkg -s
$sudo pacman -U *.pkg.tar.xz

$wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ss/ssx/ssx.tar.gz
$tar -xvzf ssx.tar.gz
$cd ssx
$makepkg -s
$sudo pacman -U *.pkg.tar.xz

$wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pa/pacmanxg4-bin/pacmanxg4-bin.tar.gz
$tar -xvzf pacmanxg4-bin.tar.gz
$cd pacmanxg4-bin
$makepkg -s
$sudo pacman -U *.pkg.tar.xz

Now application is installed you can run it on Accesories menu -> PacmanXG4.

Insert su password (root password), or sudo (user password), make sure you have added your user to sudoers.

Here’s the GUI of pacmanXG4 :

Package from official repo:

To enable downgrade feature, just install downgrade from pacmanXG4 (for testing pacmanXG4) B-)

If you see Edit PKGBuild just click no to continue, or yes if you want to edit. And the procedure will look same as installing AUR packages from terminal but it’s automaticlly. 😀

If you want to use tkPacman with Konsole as virtual terminal, you will have to change the tkPacman option «terminal» from
konsole -nofork -p tabtitle=%t -e %c
to
konsole —title %t -e %c
If I have to update tkPacman for some reason, I will also correct the command template for Konsole.

@herremaw: Oh, I see, it’s specifically with Breeze Dark, not with Breeze Light.

EDIT: It happens with the other Dark themes too. For now I’m using Krita Blender, since it’s a decent middle-ground that doesn’t have much negative impact on tkpacman.

herremaw commented on 2021-01-13 07:22

@YAOMTC: I cannot reproduce your issue with respect to the strange mix of colour schemes. I neither see it on the XFCE desktop that I am using most, nor on the Plasma desktop. For completeness, I have to add that I am just using the default colour scheme of Plasma, the one that is chosen by default after installation on Arch Linux. Did you perhaps choose a different colour scheme on Plasma? If that is the case, can you tell me which one? Best regards, Wim Herremans

YAOMTC commented on 2021-01-12 06:22

tkpacman has a strange mix of color schemes for me. White on dark gray in the ‘browser’ and ‘tmpdir’ selections and in the pacman.log viewer, black on white in ‘terminal’, ‘runasroot’ and the search fields, white on light gray in ‘fontincrement’, light gray on white in the info box, white on white in the «help» box. White on dark gray in the search box there. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m using it in the Plasma desktop if that makes any difference.

herremaw commented on 2020-12-14 08:37

@YAOMTC:
I have a Plasma installation now and I can confirm the issue.
I have found the cause of the problem too. It is the «-p tabtitle=%t» in the tkPacman option «terminal».
In the tkpacman option «terminal» just replace
konsole -nofork -p tabtitle=%t -e %c
with
konsole —title %t -e %c
The «-nofork» option was not offending, but does not seem necessary anymore, so you can leave that out also.

YAOMTC commented on 2020-12-14 05:02

Thanks, qterminal lacks the issue. It must be something with Konsole specifically, or between tkPacman and Plasma/Konsole.

@YAOMTC: I don’t know what causes the problem. At the moment I don’t have a Plasma installation at hand. Personally, I am using xfce4-terminal on Xfce. That works without problems. I will look into Plasma and Konsole, but that may take some time because I have to install Plasma. Meanwhile you could try to use qterminal instead of konsole. That works alright on my Xfce installation.

YAOMTC commented on 2020-12-12 20:11

I’ve noticed that at some point recently, when I hit Enter to close the terminal (on Plasma/KWin), DrKonqi thinks that Konsole ended unexpectedly, and at this point tkPacman freezes up temporarily. Is this more likely an issue with tkPacman or with Plasma?

herremaw commented on 2020-01-15 08:40

Minor upgrade of tkpacman to version 1.9.1. The filter in the file selection box called from «Install package from local file» has been modified from «.pkg.tar.xz» to «.pkg.tar.*». As a result, both packages with file extensions «.pkg.tar.xz» and «.pkg.tar.zst» are shown in the file selection box.

Problem solved with latest versions of TCL and TK. Took some time.

Discover

GNOME Software

Gnome.

GNOME Packagekit

pcurses

tkPacman

What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

May I ask that how to get and install arch linux GUI package manager, such as synaptic(in ubuntu) or pamac(in antergos) ?

Thanks in advance.

#2 2017-04-26 10:22:22

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

There is none — so, you cannot ever install it. This is a conscious choice, so unlikey to be changed. If you want an Arch base but also a GUI package manager, you should go for Antergos or Manjaro.

#3 2017-04-26 11:03:01

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

The above is false. There are packagekit based solutions, including KDE’s Discover and GNOME’s Software in the official repos. pamac or similar are available in the AUR. Still none of these are officially supported, that you are inherently unable to use these is complete bogus.

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

Well you got two very different answers above. They are both right — but they both may be a bit biased in their presentation (V1del’s perhaps in order to counterbalance the previous).

There is absolutle not an arch linux GUI package manager. The arch linux package manager is pacman. There are, however, many gui package management tools that target archlinux and are possible to use — some of them are in our official repositories.

But I read this question like «How do I install the arch linux web browser» — the answer is there is no such thing as an arch linux web browser — but many browsers are available to arch users. There is no «arch linux gui package manager», but many such tools are available to you if you want to pick one and install it (with pacman).

Personally, I’d strongly discourage you from using any of those tools — at least for a while. Learn to use pacman first. If there is a minor issue with some update, fixing it with pacman may be trivial if you’re familiar with pacman, while fixing it with some gui wrapper may not even be possible if you can’t start X/wayland. Although arch often does appeal to those of us who like CLI interfaces and may rarely even need a gui running, there are just as many who use full fledged DEs with all their bells and whistles — but *every* archer should be comfortable working with the core (cli-based) system tools or they could find themselves in a very troubling spot when something goes wrong.

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

Although my preference (despite my newbie’s . ) for the simple terminal tasks , I ‘ll like to ask if the software center’s of KDE Plasma Discover can be used for this purpose : is its development different from distro to distro ?
. but in any case I don’t mind it can offer all the features the terminal do ( e.g. optional dependencies ) .

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

Yes it can, packagekit is the library that implements the distro-specific packaging formats. Discover is just a frontend for packagekit and packagekit in turn implements the necessary format specifics. However, as no further effort on Arch’s side is being done other than providing it as is and the program descriptions/screenshots coming from upstream xml definition files, most smaller applications and pretty much all of the libraries and cli tools will not have any descriptions present apart from the package name, thus it might not look as integrated as it could be if you were using a distro that makes the GUI package manager a priority.

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

Although I agree that you should try to use pacman via the terminal as that is the only supported option (and gives you the best information about dependencies, among others), you can also check the wiki-page for possible GUI options:

As mentioned above, these tools are not officially supported. If you are just looking to browse packages, you can also do that simply via the website (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/) and then install the package using pacman in the terminal.

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

You can turn pacman into a GUI application:

Re: What’s arch linux GUI package manager ?

There’s definitely no need for the global flag to sed there. Shorter:

Really a GUI should be prettier than that, so don’t forget after that:
